It's really not a good deal. In a normal world you can't trade that package for a top 10 player. No young stud. No great draft pick. Still a steal for a top 10 player.
Harris probably gets overrated by a lot of people also, but he's still better than Felton. Favors may not turn out great, but he sure has all the potential in the world. Instead of dumping Murphy they'll have to dump Curry which will cost them Randolph. The two first rounders Denver would have kept were most likely the NJ and GS one, not the crappy LAL and HOU ones. In this deal Denver gets a crappy MEM/UTA pick from MIN. The 3 young proven players sound nice on paper, but both Chandler and Gallinari are SF's and Chandler is due for a payday (expect $7mil/year+). Felton plays the same position their best young players (Lawson) is playing at and we really don't know how good or bad Chandler and Gallinari really are because of D'Antoni's stat inflating system.
At least you can put the Knicks deal on paper. The Nets deal is all vaporware with one guy that's overrated, one guy that has potential and 3 picks that you can't assign a slot or name to yet. Only way this works out better for Denver is if with one of those picks they draft a Blake Griffin or Derek Rose and I'll take that bet every time that they won't.
Denver still prefers NJ's package to NY's increased offer, because "They think picks have more value than the players," league source says
Wojnowarski: Still, it will come down to Denver owner Stan Kroenke's decision to OK Knicks offer and give 'Melo what he wants: $65M and the Knicks. For Denver, potential of Derrick Favors is still an intriguing lure. Josh Kroenke and Masai Ujiri did the work, but Stan will make the call. As much as Amar'e wants Melo in NY, he's completely against gutting the roster to get him, sources say. He knows it takes a balanced roster. If nothing else, Nets getting back into mix forces Knicks to pay a steeper price for Melo. Which is why they thought this was a win-win.
... but nah. The pick is lottery protected til 2016 and if should the Nets/Nuggets not have received the pick by then the Rockets must convey their 2017 2nd rounder and cash. Doesn't look very attractive to me.
Personally, i want Melo to go to NY. That way we have a shot at Randolph for a pick, as well as Nene.
I want Melo to go to NJ because that trade is more geared toward a rebuilding situation. And if Denver is indeed rebuilding, then they'd most likely be open to trading Nene for some young players.
Where ever Melo goes, so does Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and others to make money match. So whatever happens, the Nuggets will be rebuilding. They are waiting to trade Melo before any other trades happen. So we have a chance at Nene either way. Like i said, i prefer NY, so that we may have a chance at Randolph.
Randolph most likely doesn't interest the Rockets or else they would have traded for him with their 2012 pick instead of TWilliams. Nene does have the interest of the Rockets. However, Melo going to the Nets or the Knicks doesn't really matter other than the timeframe giving enough time for them to make a deal for Nene in time, and the value of the 2012 pick. The Rockets have a vested interest in the 2012 Knicks pick which they are banking on being pretty good if Melo does not go to NY. The Rockets were gambling that all the stars would leave them high and dry last summer and unfortunately Amare took a gamble on the Knicks and made them relevant. They obviously still believe that next year they could slide back down if they dont aquire Melo and thats why they dealt with NJ to assist them in the Melo dealings and aquire Twilliams.
You're overvaluing those picks, as people on this board tend to do. Anthony is a high pick that has panned out, in a big way. Teams don't come by a player of this caliber easily. Very few picks turn out to be as good as Anthony has proven himself to be, and it's unlikely any of those four picks N.J. is giving up would amount to a player as good as he is. Picks come and go. It's a franchise-changing move for N.J., as long as Carmelo re-signs. And Denver's getting as much as they could hope for. Good deal for both teams.
Regarding Troy Murphy: [rQUOTEr]Troy Murphy will not be a member of the Nets too much longer. There have been plenty of reports that he is part of the proposed package that will help bring Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey. According to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle, Denver and Golden State have agreed on a trade that will send Murphy to the Warriors, if they acquire the power forward as part of the Anthony trade. The newspaper spoke with Warriors general manager Larry Riley and he said any deal for Murphy would not include Denver. Simmons writes: "Riley said the Murphy deal would go through New Jersey if it were to happen. He said the Warriors are part of talks with New Jersey, among a number of other teams, on deals that would exchange the Warriors' expiring contracts for a player of substance inside or for future draft picks." The players on the Warriors that have expiring contracts and could be traded are Dan Gadzuric, Vladimir Radmanovic and Brandan Wright. Murphy began his NBA career with the Warriors, before he was traded to Indiana during the 2006-07 season.[/rquoter]
Then you re-sign in Houston, Dallas or [insert rental city/team here] He wants the money first and foremost imo
Somebody asked, maybe in another thread that if Williams was so good, then why would New jersey trade him for a lottery protected pick. The only reason he was traded was for a pick to be used to get Carmello. If they don't get him, New Jersey fails big time. The fans in New Jersey will be pissed, and I can't believe they won't be making more moves including those picks to calm the crowd down. That's where Morey steps in. New Jersey wants Scola... We need a good lottery pick. Morey gets T-Will, an his pick back.
