Not very much entertaining for this black man. To see people live like that and throw away their lives over stupidity is really disturbing. I watched two episodes of The First 48 Hours last night on recommendations from several people including on this Board. Not knocking those people at all, watching the law enforcement process in reality is interesting.

However, in the four cases, three involved totally senseless murders of blacks that was just outright depressing. The fourth involved a totally senseless murder of a latino. the first episode, a 23 woman gets shot in the car with her boyfriend driving and kids in the back. the woman was confronted by four women, the boyfriend claimed he didn't know what was going on. when the case is completed, it turns out that the victim had a friend feuding with the women, and she actually told her boyfriend to pull up next to these women when she saw them on the way home. one of the women, 24, pulls out a pistol, shoots the victim in the head.

second story, amazingly even dumber, four cousins and a friend sitting out grandma's apartment. they go to buy more liquor and are confronted by another man in the neighborhood, who wants to fight. Nothing happens but when they get back home, the man shows up with a pistiol and a friend packing an AK and two guys are murdered, and another shot. in course of the investigation they find the second shooter who is only a teenager.

Just unbelievable senseless murder. I'm not claiming the show is exploitive, for me personally its just depressing.

Do you you mean "The First 48"? If so i totally agree with you. One thing you will notice if you watch that show enough is that a large portion of those murders are drug related.

Just another example of the man trying to keep a brother down.

I have a friend who loves this show but I've never shared that affinity. It's amazing how some locations seem to always solve their cases while others never do.

Its an okay series...but it gets repetitive.

Which is unfortunate but not surprising because the conditions haven't changed.

I used to watch a bunch. I specifically liked the Memphis detectives.

Now that they've started filming with the Harris County Sheriffs, I watch those episodes whenever they are on.

I went through a phase with it. You do get to know the personalities but after a 'First 48'-a-thon or two it becomes redundant.

Personally, I liked 'DEA' because it was at much quicker pace.

pgabriel - I thought of making a thread about this show...it leaves you feeling so blah - people do such stupid awful things. It's also interesting because 3 of the episodes I have seen are Houston/Harris county. :(

I've looked into hundreds of murders -- some for such minor indiscretions as a spilled soft drink or a casual glance at a woman's highly exposed cleavage -- but I've never seen a sensible murder. However, I understand your point. The show is a very sad commentary.

Truth is the people who are on these shows are in proverty. Proverty has this effect on people whe they live for today and don't think about tommorrow. It may seem senseless to most of us why people on this show do what they don but to them they really think about getting the money the one way they know how and thats it.

I have recorded this show and have seen most of the episodes.

There is a lot of black on black killing but the surprising thing is how many of these young black guys all have guns. There is a lot of hard staring and we 'got to tussling' that usually result in someone dead. It's astonishing how little anyone ever wants to talk to the police in the black neighborhood. 'yeah don't talk to him , he just wants to know who killed ray ray' god forbid they help solve a murder!

That's the part that bothers me. I mean I get it 'f the police' etc but your best friend just got shot and you know who did it. Get off that 'street honor/street justice' bs.. what a joke.

And when a murder happens it almost always is the gun went off in the struggle, or they were just trying to rob and ended up shooting. It seems a lot of these guys are using guns for anything. I'm going to go buy tampons for my grandma , I better take my gun.

Interesting to see the homicide process and what all happens. I'm not saying you shouldn't talk to police at all : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wXkI4t7nuc

but it's crazy on this 48 hour show how often someone just up and outs themselves when they are about to walk. Also if there is no evidence you can get away with murder. that seems to happen a lot more than I previously thought.
