i know ive only had a few posts on clutchcity.net and im not a reliable scource to any of you right now, but if u dont believe this its ok. I feel that i have been screwed! My father lives in a apartment complex called san montego and when cuttino came to houston this is where he chose to live. i have met him quite a few times and have had some long conversations with him. Im a pool junkie and he was up there alot.(The reason why i can tell u where he lived is because he has moved) Although i dont think he considers me his friend we have talked alot in the past. i cant beleive you are all talking about the same cuttino mobley that i knew. This cuttino told me he loved houston and loves playing with steve. I tried to talk to him about other things besided bball, but most interesting were talks on basketball. He has told me in the past that he would 1) dislike playing in canada and 2) wanted to play with steve the rest of his career. Then you would imagine my jaw drop once i heard his top 2 choice include toronto! This being about three weeks ago i didnt beleive it. Thought it was some kind of crazy rumor. Then im in footlocker at memorial city mall and who walks in?...... cuttino! (i know this is kinda crazy but bare with me) He casually walks over to the footlocker employee (who looked like he was about to collapse) and looked at some stuff. The employ then asks him to sign the basketball goal that hangs over the register.(for all that dont know this board is signed by a few notable athletes that have visited the store) He then browses around at leaves. I catch up to him outside of the store and ask him whats up casually to see if he remembers who the hell i am. luckily he had some i kind of an idea( or he atleast tried to act like he did) of who i was. I then asked him where he was going to sign. He obviosly didnt want to talk about it to some guy hes talked to maybe 5 times in his life . But he did confirm that he was thinking about going to toronto. Then he had to leave and went. This drove me crazy when i was thinking about this that night. This guy that i had talked to before, said that he wanted to play with steve for the rest of his career and would never want to play in canada. Now he is leaning more torwards signing with toronto then with houston. I still dont know completely but i have a pretty good idea. Its a 5 letter word that begins with "m" and ends with "y". Its MONEY. Thats the only reason i can think of. Its not to play with vince carter, its money. This is an example of the one greatest thing that is wrong with sports. The fact that a person can change his perspective on everything just by flashing more money in his face shows how powerful money is in sports. I beleive that until professional sports can better control the economics of its own games , the sports will never perform to there full potential of fun and competiveness. The point of this entire story is to show one example of how sports are falling apart in front of our faces without us even noticing i would love to see your thoughts on this. ------------------

Drewdadraftman: Thanks for your interesting story. Anecdotes about encounters with the Rockets are always great to read here. Regarding what Mobley told you, it's important to remember that basketball is a business as well as a game. When he told you that he loved playing with Francis and that he would want to play his entire career here, he was doing it to protect himself. Even if he was unhappy here in Houston (which I don't think he was) the last thing he wanted was a public rumor to leak into the Rockets organization which might result in him being traded. Playing the field this offseason was probably in his mind all along, but it wouldn't be wise for him to talk about it in the middle of the season. On the other hand, when he says now that he is considering Toronto, he may have just done so to increase his leverage with the Rockets. Although the Rockets cannot offer him any more money than they already have, there is always the starter's position, or more playing time, or just the wish not to be taken for granted. ------------------ I will demonstrate my clutchness this November.
