He's now the def coordinator for the Celtics. Maybe if Adelman leaves we can pick him up. Something I didn't know about him:
The Celtics were ranked 5th in defense last year with Thibadoeux, the greatest defensive genius in the history of the NBA in the minds of clutchfans. The Celtics are ranked 2nd in defense this year with Frank... Seriously, anyone HONESTLY believe that the Rockets defensive troubles are fixable by some defensive guru?
Rick Adelman, by far, is the better coach. If there must be a coaching change, I'd favor Jerry Sloan over Lawrence Franks. Didn't Sloan coach Texas A&M before he went to Utah?
I say we call up the Vipers coach to the Rockets. I mean, aren't we pioneers in utilizing the D-League? Its time for Morey to break new ground, once again.
I keep hearing a lot of no's but no substantial reasoning for WHY not.. cmon CFs. I thought you were better than this. Did you not read that little tidbit up top?
Simple, and it can't be more obvious: We don't have the players. Red Auerbach wouldn't make our defense any better than the Suns.
i didn't mention defense at all when i mentioned hiring him. He is the defensive assistant yes, but he can coach young players, as witnessed by that blurb i posted. what do you know, we have rookies and young players.
I don't know where this idea came from that Adelman is only good on winning teams and that on a rebuilding team he's useless. Because he plays the veterans? Because he values WINNING BASKETBALL GAMES over "development"? Because he won't play a player that everyone on this board overrates because he's thrown five good passes? I'm not really interested in discussing Adelman's replacement, because I don't want Adelman to be replaced. Nor do I see why people think he should.
People need to realize that the defensive issues is NOT a coaching issue. You cannot play defense if you don't have defensive personnel. You can add JVG, Thibs, and Frank to this coaching staff, and it still would not solve our defensive issues. Instead of being ranked 25 in defense, we'd be ranked 18 or 19. And instead of being top 5 in offense, we'd be ranked 15 or 16. I highly doubt that would help us win games.
I think only some feel the above. But also many, including myself, wonder just how much Adelman would wish to rebuild again. The guy's getting old, so he could very well just retire after this year. Or seek a contender instead. While I personally won't mind Adelman coaching the Rockets for the long term, I'm not sure he's into such a thing if we're building from scratch.
I think Frank is the intended successor to Rivers when Doc actually decides to retire. That could come after this season.
How about the fact that he makes boneheaded coaching decisions? Its been what, 3 years and the team still can't execute properly out of timeouts. We've lost 3 close games because Brooks was played too long while T-Will rots on the bench. He plays Battier at the 4 for some unexplanable reason and he also subs in 4 players at one time. If you can't see why Adelman should be replaced then you're freaking blind.
Unless Morey defies the odds and lands a superstar or majorly upgrades the roster by the summer, its most likely that Adelman will move on. Most likely to retirement. -If that is the case I think Lawrence Frank will be somebody that Morey and Les will have to seriously consider.
He has spoken in the past about wanting to be home with his family and about how much of their lives he's missed. He has won the ring. And he's probably fine with what he has accomplished as a coach. Not everyone wants to work until a late age. My guess is he rides out the Allen/Pierce/Garnett era but he could leave before then.
I'm not a fan of Frank whatsoever. If we were going to replace Adelman and couldn't find a good veteran coach (Mike Brown?), I'd like to give a young guy a chance.
