What on Earth are you talking about?? Every one of those trades was a BLOCKBUSTER at the time they happened. Just because they didn't work out as expected doesn't mean they weren't BIG trades.....if you asked any NBA exec, I bet they would tell you that the Rockets are one of the teams that are ALWAYS willing to trade for a big name if the opportunity presents itself. Don't confuse results with desire.
I think there will be moves, but nothing as sexy as what everyone is expecting. Minor movies to set up something in the future.
Yep, there will probably be an insignificant trade made right before the deadline and the whole GARM will go into serious meltdown-mode. There isn't a trade out there that's going to turn this team into anything more than a low playoff seed/1st round exit this year. If you are holding out hope for anything more than that (this year), you are going to be majorly disappointed. And by the way, there's no Easter Bunny either.
I can't imagine NO TRADE. Morey has positioned himself explicitly for this deadline with lots of assets to make a move. Unfortunately, I think his rep is probably hurting him, and the "star" deals might not be available. No one wants to be the next gm on his belt of those he's gotten the best of. ... but, even if its just a move to get under the luxury tax, I'm sure Morey will do something. Morey won't make a move just to make a move. He's an opportunist, an MBA business guy with MIT smarts. He has a long term plan that takes into account Yao's issues, and will probably wait until the last second to see who blinks in the game of chicken, and grab his best deal. But, he won't make a panic move, even if he has to wait until new opportunities present themselves. We made our plays with Yao and TMac, and lost. We took our shot and injuries killed us. So, now we have to be patient, and wait until the right deals develop. We've been here before ...
Still wont be a good team after trade deadline. Waste assets that are only valuable this year. Yao's contract, Battier, Brooks. Morey gets fired in two years. Thats my prediction.
Why's everyone keep stating Barkley was a bust when in the 1st year he was here we made the Western Finals?
If I recall correctly with the exception of Drexler, none of these so called blockbuster trades did anything for us. So with that being said, Rockets are not big name traders.
I second this. Swinging a deal for a superstar just seems too unlikely this trade deadline, and the one boderline superstar who might have been available (Melo) looks like he might be staying in Denver after all. Still seems like a likely scenario to get the Rockets under the lux tax. Although Im not sure it sends the right message to the players and the fans that you would trade a pick and a great class act team player like Jefferies for virtually nothing just to save some money. With that being said teams have done moves like this for years to get under the lux tax. Its unfortunate, but its a reality. Especially with the lack of sellout crowds the Toyota Center has got this season. -I think a separate move will still be made to give the Rockets another big at some point in the next three weeks. I just dont see how Morey could get away with being able to produce a team for another season with an undersized front court. The need has been prevelent for too long and he knows it needs to be addressed.
The Rockets will for sure make a move. It might not be a move for a 2nd tier star or someone of that nature but maybe someone that gets us below the Luxury Tax as people have mentioned. My trade deadline wish list. - A shot blocking center That's all I want.
I'd bet $20 to the tip jar at least two deals go down. I'm pessimistic of a blockbuster, but would be surprised if we don't have at least one new starter at the end of the month. Morey's pressed to make something happen, but Melo's situation is tying the hands of the entire league. We could be in for an explosively busy deadline day. Additionally, there are more teams pushing for moves than is being actively reported by the press: Cleveland Charlotte Utah New Jersey New York Washington Philly Indy Dallas Portland Phoenix Memphis GSW LAC Minny All want to make a move. If things come together, there could be a storm of activity in two weeks.
***** YOU KARL MALONE!!! Anyway if stockton hadn't made that shot..everyone's opinion of that trade would be very different...
so you name all of the trades involving big names that we've made in the past to back up your argument that the rockets are not big name traders? sigh.
I definitely think there will be significant trades made. If Morey can work something out for a star, we'll go that way. Otherwise, I think some veterans will get moved out for a full rebuild. I don't think standing pat is sustainable any longer. And, despite the haters, I think Brooks' meltdown makes it less likely he or Lowry is traded. Morey will get lowballed on offers for him and he'll prefer to sign Brooks to a cheap contract and bide his time. Meanwhile, he'll be more reticent to trade Lowry without having the security of being able to count on Brooks. Still, if the price is right, you know Morey would trade either or both.
No offense, but this has got to be one of the silliest--yes, I said "silliest"--things I have ever read on this BBS. The Barkley trade catapulted the Rockets past the Sonics (a team the championship Rockets simply couldn't beat) and got Houston within one game of the NBA Finals in 1997. How is that "not doing anything" for the Rockets??? By this rationale, the Lebron sign-and-trade to Miami did nothing for the Heat. I mean, they haven't even won a championship yet with him!
