I'm not going to jump on the hater bandwagon. The Superbowl tried to hire a younger band to compensate for how dull the previous few halftime shows have been. While paying homage to oldies and bands from the previous generation is understandable. 51% of the viewers watching on TV and at the Superbowl prefer fireworks, dazzle, and light shows. Sure, those well-versed in music will stop and say "what?". But most just don't care.
Exactly. Too many hater in this thread that doesn't understand how the music industry work. I thought you guys wouldve learn by the likes of Justin Bieber, kathy perry, new Usher, etc. Nobody in this generation cares about the old geezard band of yesteryear no matter how good they are. Its just not flashy, hip or cool enough and will bore the more casual younger fans. Just accept the music and entertainment for what it is today, an evolution and move on. By the way, Prince was hands down the best performance in the superbowl though I'm willing to bet that my newphew, necies and younger relative would rather prefer the newer generation of artist.
I didn't think it was that bad. It was entertaining enough to watch. I don't think I've ever watched as much of the halftime show as I did today. on a side note....wtf was up with Usher? Dude touched his mic more than he spoke into it.
For those who've never actually heard the original song? And I know there are plenty on here these days... <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/i1XMrIxAtXU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Wow a lot of hate in this thread. I certainly loved the halftime show this year. It was the first in a long time that we actually watched instead of turning the volume down and going to get 2nds of the bbq.
Just wow at the OP. I really am finding it difficult to fathom that there are actually some people out there that thought the halftime show was good! Not that it was decent but it was good or as in the words of Chamillionaire(who I lost respect for in 140 characters or less tonight) "it was the best SB halftime show ever! Better than Prince, Janet/Justin, etc". Like rocketjudoka mentioned, Prince was and still is tops in my book especially in recent memory. The U2 performance was also great but that Prince performance was, as Kanye would say, *****ing RIDICULOUS! The rain in Miami, Prince in a headwrap wearing some ghey heels yet belting out some classics and just slaying it on guitar! WOW! <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rfNeoKv8qzk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Why because it was U2? LOL. I don't understand the reverence for this band, there music is complicated is about all you can say. This music is terrible. INXS was better when Joshua Tree came out, and still is. As for music, Bruce Springsteen had the best halftime show ever. If you are going by spectacle alone Micheal Jackson's sets the bar.
You beat me to it. Prince should be there for the next 5 games. He just knows how to bring it. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MS70tCPP-_4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3XmxijQfMow" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Come on Fatty, don't hurt em with those vids. Lil kids saying the Wack Eyed Peas had the best half-time performance, or had a good one in general, pssht! You got Prince, You got MJ, You got U2, You got The Boss and they're talking bout the B.E.Peas! HOW DO I REACH THESE KEEEEDS!!
That was probably one of the worst halftime shows the Super Bowl has had. Even if you liked the music, outside of the stage, it was a trainwreck; the vocals sounded awful, the mics seemed to only work half the time, the entire audio presentation was a mess. Generic poppy crap is at least defendable I guess but the technical aspects of it were also garbage.
They should get Darius Rucker to do it. Or Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. At any rate, Springteen rules the halftime show. Anyone that doesn't think so are tools that don't know good music! <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/R06FMoT-hkk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
why does it have to be yesteryear? Chevelle, Tool, APC, incubus.... heck even Linkin Park.... all are modern rock bands that produce okay to great music.
