This should be interesting.... 1989 Pontiac Sunbird aka Mecahnics Special Driven from August of 1992 till August of 1994 1 ticket 1 accident (my fault) Overall: Piece of crap that was in the repair shop quite a bit 1990 Geo Storm aka G-ride Driven from August of 1994 till May of 1997 2 tickets 2 roberies (stereo) 1 accident (hit and run b*stard speeding down Richmond) Overall: Got me through a rough freak March blizzard driving through Abilene. Timing belt stranded me in Comanche, TX. Tough little car. 1990 Mazda B2200 Pickup aka little low rider Driven from May of 1997 till August 2000 1 ticket 1 robery (stereo) 1 accident (not my fault) Overall: Not many problems, but was a little slow and laborious. I looked pretty ghetto with the custom tires/rims and dark window tint. 1995 Honda Accord EX aka Super b**** Driven from August 2002 till May 2002 1 ticket 1 robery (stereo) 1 accident (not my fault) Overall: In case you missed a few of my other threads on this car, I spent a grand total of about $4,800 in repairs on this horrible excuse for an automobile. GOOD RIDANCE!!! 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 S aka N/A Driven from May 2002 till Present 0 tickets 0 roberies Overall: Pros: Looks good on the outside, really fast, comfortable on long trips. Cons: Rattle here, rattle there, rattling everywhere, interior is super cheap looking, suspension problems. But reliability seems to be good w/ Nissan
I had a '91 storm. I put over 80k miles on it and it went to the shop twice. One time because I folded a gasket wrong while replacing the thermostat, and couldn't figure out what I had done wrong(cost me 36 bucks to fix a 50cent paper gasket) and the other was because the timing belt broke(luckily a friend passed me on the side of the road and we loaded that sucker in his lowboy trailer and drove it to the mechanic). That car ran great and was fun to drive. The only thing that sucked about it was that the friggin front left hub cap fell off randomly. I think it was a design problem because I have seen many a storm with that cap missing. I have had a couple of cars that I did not own but drove. I now own a '97 Accord and a '92 civic. The civic will eb traded in within the next few months for somethign else. CK
1984 to 1989 1977 Buick LeSabre. First and last car grandma's type car with a 350 and a four barrel. I abused that car, and it kept on going. For some strange reason, it still shows up in the occasional dream. At least 1 ticket, and one little fender bender. 1989 to 1994 1984 toyota 4X4 Another abused vehicle. At least 1 ticket and MANY whiskey dents. 1994 to 1996 1994 toyota 4X4 Almost brand new, so I kept good care of it. Didn't have it long though. At least 1 ticket; no wrecks. 1996 1999 1990 ford F150 good reliable truck. picked it up for $4,800; sold it three years later for $4,000. At least 1 ticket. 1999 to 2001 1999 GMC Sierra My first brand new vehicle, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted, so I didn't have it long (good vehicle though). No tickets; starting to get old. 2000 to present 2000 Ford F-250, 4X4, crew cab, diesel, leather....the whole works. I don't care how much of a redneck people think I am. I still keep a Kaffir Lime tree outside for my Thai cooking, I still designed the floral arrangements for our new house, and my wife and I are best friends with a gay couple. I love this truck! Sadly, I've decided to put it on the market, so I can get a swimming pool for the wife (OK....maybe I want one too).
1. 1974 Porsche 914 (White) Driven for most of 1992. 0 tickets 3 warnings 1 accident totalling the car Overall: Good top speed and fantastic handling. Poor acceleration. Poor sound system. No AC. Always had this or that little mechanical problem. T-top. Very, very cool car. 2. 1974 Porsche 914 (Red) Driven from whenever it was I wrecked the white one till 10/93. (This requires some explanation: When my car was declared totaled, my father bought it back from an auction. He bought another 914 with an intact body and put my old engine/transmission in it. He then sold the remaining parts of both cars.) 1 ticket (no front license plate, aka I just pulled you over because I figured you stole the car but now that I see you didn't I'm going to give you a hokey ticket to justify pulling you over in the first place) -- beaten in court. 0 accidents Overall: Much like the first one. Sound system was a bit better but acceleration was somehow even worse and it had either more or worse mechanical failings. At one point, to shift gears, I had to put in the clutch, shift to neutral, let out the clutch, move the stick, put in the clutch and pop it into gear. 3. 1997 Honda Accord Driven 9/00 to present. 2 tickets. 0 accidents. Overall: Nothing like the Porsche. Handling, top speed and acceleration are all mediocre. It doesn't look much like anything. It doesn't make you feel or look cool nor will it entice you to speed or even drive. However, it never has any problems. The only thing I've had to address was some worn brake pads and old tires. And this car had a wreck before I bought it. So, old Porsche: cool but unreliable new Honda: reliable but uncool
82 CJ-7 from 89-91. The High School Years. PErfect High School ride. I accidentally submerged it in Galveston and about a year later it was a rusty piece of crap. 87 Audi piece of crap in 91. The first college year. Crappy car. Nice for delivering pizza. 82 Chevy Pick-up. 92 through 94. Absolute turd. Called it Hoss Daddy. NIce car until i totaled it. Then it was crap. 2002 Volvo S-80 T6. Present. Damn fine car. 2003 Chevy Silverado. Present. Damn ordinary. Somewhere in there I had a Mustang and a mullet. I also had a piece of crap old ass bmw cuz I was a pimp but I lost it. Seriously. I left it at an apartment complex at which I lived for a few days and a few days turned into a week and then a month and then like three months later I remembered about it and I went back to the apartment complex and it was gone. Oops. Chants
1991 GMC Jimmy Driven from June 1999 to August 2001 4 minor accidents; it destroyed every head/tail light it came in contact with but never recieved more than a scratch itself. Embarassingly broke down while on a date, but at least had the courtesy to do so after the girl was dropped off. 2002 Toyota Corolla Driven from August 2001-present I've allready put 27,000 miles on it.
--1998-2001 '94 Honda Civic It was my sister's girlie car hand me down. I kept telling people, it's not purple, it's camelia red. I almost totaled it freshman year on Riverside when I was hit by some dumb@$$. --2001-Present '98 Honda Civic This is my mom's car. I need to give it back. --2003? '03 Honda Pilot I can dream can't I?
by accesorize you mean the girl, right? as for me: 1990 Volvo 240GL 1993 Ford Explorer XLT 1994 Dodge Intrepid 2000 Ford Mustang convertible next up (2003) - Lincoln Navigator or BMW 330i
1985-1986 1980 VW Rabbit Diesel - lime green (purchased 1985) First car. 1986 1975 CJ5 Jeep - white- This jeep would go through anything 1987-1990 1987 Chevy Spectrum - Blue - First new car - This was the year before they stared calling them Geo's 1990-1992 1990 Pontiac Sunbird Convertible Turbo - Red - I loved this car. Sold it to my younger sister who blew the engine and never paid me for it. b****. 1992-1994 MY VW years, I owned all three of these at one time... 1970 VW Camper Bus - White - I had a lot of fun in this party bus 1972 SuperBeetle - blue - Good car. Never let me down. 1970 VW Karmen Ghia Convertible - Black - Wish I had never sold this one. It was like driving a go-cart on the freeway. 1994-1996 1994 Honda Prelude - Black - I was going thru hard times and let this get repo'ed. Big mistake. 1996-present 1996 Isuzu Rodeo - Blue - Good truck, the wife drives it now. It's paid for. 2000-present 1995 BMW 530i Sport Touring Wagon - Green - By far the nicest car I've ever owned. I'd buy a new one if I could afford it. (almost paid for)
198-something Datsun B210 Oh, yeah. Pumpkin orange 4-door, jacked up in the back with pure vinyl interior and a stereo that shorted out on a regular basis. No a/c and a four-speed standard that needed transmission fluid on a nearly daily basis. It eventually died. 1987 Mazda B2000 Truck My first NEW car. Charcoal gray with maroon interior. Five speed standard. That truck will always have a fond spot in my heart. I eventually sold it off when it was leaking oil and got up over 100,000 miles. 1993 Ford Ranger Truck Bare bones with a/c, 5-speed standard and a pretty royal blue color. It was totaled in a parking lot by some teen age girl. Insurance company sided with her and I didn't have collision. Ouch. 2000 Toyota Pre-Runner Truck What a great truck! Dark red king cab with a bedliner and matching cap. 6-cyl automatic and it is loaded. It's a joy.
Man, your unemployment checks must be sweet! Onto mine...funny thing is I was thinking about this just the other day (my vehicle history).. 1980 Brown Datsun 510 aka The Brown Bomber Driven from July of 1989 till August of 1991 0 ticket 0 accident Overall: 4 speed that was originally bought new and was given to me by my dad after my sister screwed up one summer. It was a very reliable car and was sold right before I started college for $500 with a 110k miles. I was pissed at my dad for doing that. I was then told that I didn't get to have a car on campus my freshman year in college. 1990 Gold Ford Escort LX Driven from August of 1991 till September of 1997 1 ticket 0 accident Overall: This car was also bought new by my dad and was given to my mother. Eventually, my dad bought a Ranger and let her drive it and passed this car onto me. It was a 5 speed but only had a puny horsepower of 88! Escorts are not very reliable cars normally, but this was an exception. The only problems I really had with it were the air conditioning (that was a standard problem on Escorts) and the timing belt broke at 82k miles as I was going back to Huntsville, AL one weekend. I sold it to a Junior College professor who worked with my mom in the fall of '97 for $1750. Supposedly, his daughter is still driving it today and loving it! It had like 88k miles on it when it was sold. 1992 White Honda Prelude SI aka "The Lemon" Driven from September of 1997 till mid December 1998 0 ticket 0 accident Overall: Damn, did this car sucked! It is ironic that I would go from an Escort (traditionally unreliable but mine was reliable) to a Prelude (traditionally reliable but in my case this would be unreliable) and have more problems with the Prelude than the Escort! I had just gotten out of school and took a job with a credit union. This was my chance of establishing some credit and was the first car I bought on my own. I went to a used Honda place in Nashville called "World Class Sales". Don't EVER go there if any of you are in Nashville! This car looked great but it already had 89k miles on it. It wasn't after a week or so, that I had a flat tire. It was discovered that another tire was messed up, so I wound up just getting 4 brand new tires and they weren't cheap. More problems would follow: messed up axle (wound up going with a used axle to fix that), oil leaks, power steering went out, some brake work done, new timing belt and water pump, new clutch had to be installed, and *gulp*, had a used transmission put in despite this car being a 5 speed! What sucked even more was that I was paying a loan on this piece of junk! I don't know how much money I spent on car repairs on this piece of ****! It was though the first car that I ever had that was loaded and had a spoiler, sunroof, etc. Finally at like a 110k miles, I had a problem with the master switch (passenger side window would not roll back up) and that was going to cost me like $150 to fix. I said enough is enough and got rid of that lemon. Fortunately, my loan wasn't that high and I was staying with my parents, so I could get that thing paid off pretty fast. 1994 Hunter Green Toyota Camry LEV6 Driven from mid-December 1998 to end of May 2001 2 tickets 0 accident Overall: I went from the horrors of that Prelude to a great car in this Camry. It was the first automatic that I got and the horsepower went from 140 in the Prelude to 184. This car had everything except for leather interior (the XLE have those). The only bad thing, though, is that I didn't feel it was very sporty. Had very few problems with it...sold it with around 100k miles I think. 1997 White Nissan Maxima SE aka "Scalded Dog" Driven from end of May 2001 till Present 0 ticket 1 accident (said it was my fault but I didn't agree that it was my fault completely) Overall: I bought this car used from a friend of mine who works at the local Ford place in town. This car had like 52k miles on it and like the Camry it was loaded. Also, like the Camry, it has everything except leather interior (the GLE has those). What separates it from my Camry is a couple of things: superior sound system (it has a Bose..also a CD player AND cassette player), little more horsepower at 190, and a "sportier" feel to it. I really think the best way to describe a Maxima SE is that it is a 4 door sports car. I only had one big problem with it. When I was having a 70k mile tuneup done, the dealership really screwed me. It already cost like $300 and then they told me that I had some bad o-ring that was causing oil to get on the sparkplug. They even said that they weren't going to give me my car back until they fixed that which of course was another $300 to $350. I remained calm on the outside but I was seething on the inside. After that I felt that I couldn't trust them and that they were just looking to rip me off. I went awhile to some of these quick-lube places, but I have finally found me a guy who is really, really good. Of course, the good thing is that this car has been very reliable (except for that questionable thing at the Nissan dealership) despite being in a wreck (which happened to me less than a month of owning the car!). I call it the "Scalded Dog" because that is what it runs like...a scalded dog.
1997-1999: 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Granny car but damn comfortable and never had one single problem in the 16 years my family owned it. Present: 1990 Ford F-350 flatbed with 4x4 and dualies. Doesn't look like much but the ballsiest truck I have ever come across. Big, old-school 460 which has pulled tractors three times its size up and down mountains in Oregon and never complained once. 1996 Acura 3.2 TL: To quote a friend of mine, that car has nads. It's one of those cars that can cruise at 95 or 100 mph and not even notice how fast you are going. 125000 miles and no problems outside of maintenance: had to get the CV boots and the starter replaced, but that had more to do with living in a place (Fairbanks) where it gets to 50 degrees below zero on a regular basis in the winter. I would recommend an Acura for almost anybody.
1975 Bricklin SV-1 1984 Pontiac Fiero 1984 Pontiac 6000 1985 Ford Bronco II 1987 Ford Taurus 1989 Pontiac Grand Am 1993 Nissan Pickup 1993 Pontiac Grand Am 1994 Pontiac Grand Am 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 2001 Pontiac Bonneville (best car Ive ever had) 2002 GMC Sierra (current) 1992 Mazda Protege (current) 1957 Corvette Convertible (current; restoration project)
Well, I don't believe I've ever seen a scalded dog run before, so you'll have to explain that one to me. my cars have been pretty boring: 1989 Ford Tempo - Hand me down. A POS, but still has a soft spot in my heart because it was my very first car. It had automatic shoulder belts that moved back and forth along the door frame, but the one on the driver's side didn't work and it always made this loud, annoying buzzing sound for about 20 seconds every time I got out. My friends still razz me about that. Tore up the transmission on it, and we gave it to some guy down the street. 1989 Ford Ranger - Another hand me down. Damn good truck. The first and only stick I've ever owned. My dad put about 30K on that truck in seven years, I put 70K on it in four years. Tore the transmission up on it, then got $500 for it from an auto mechanic as a trade in. Transmissions don't like me very much... 1998 GMC Sonoma - Current ride. My first ever vehicle that had A/C! Bought it from a mechanic only because I wasn't going to get $500 from that old Ranger anywhere else. The check engine light is currently on right now, god only knows what that means. I think it needs new plugs, but I'm not sure. I'm looking to get a new car with a WARRANTY!
ha ha, no, but i'm hoping that by the end of 2003 I will have a job... but at this rate its not a very good assumption!
