    You can never go wrong with an episode of L&O (and any version thereof). Same goes for The First 48 (basically real life documentary L&O focused only on the detective work).

    The only problem is I've seen so many of both already. That's also why I'm partial to the older ones - I haven't seen many of them yet.

    I liked the old ones with the crotchety head DA, McCoy, Brisco, and Oliver North the best. Must've been seasons 3-8. I liked McCoy's sermonizing speeches better than the DA before him.

    I was hooked until they brought in the blonde DA after Angie Harmon.

    apparently they fired the first DA because he got into with Janet Reno.

    If you really want to see Waterson sermonize, he's awesome in this show "I'll Fly Away" which was on NBC prior to him joining law and order. he plays a DA in a Georgia town in the fifties at the beginning of the Civil Rights movement. The show lasted two seasons I believe but it was some of the best television you will ever see.
