I wouldn't say he's brainless. He has had some good games this season. It's been up and down for Hill. You're being a little hard because you are only focusing on his mistakes. He's had some good blocksalready. Like someone pointed out earlier, his jumpshot is coming around. His defense is ok at times, but maybe expected to do too much too early. Playing out of position. After all that, he is experiencing family troubles, which at 23-24, is too much too handle.
I flat out reject the argument that everyone keeps making for Hill saying he started late. You just agreed that hands and footwork (both offensive and defensive) are things that cannot be taught. Doesn't matter if he started at 2 or 32. Can you teach a person with no rhythm to dance? Ever tried. Finally, I know it is unfair to compare hill to two hall of fame big men, but Tim duncan and hakeem both started their basketball careers around the same time as hill. They were born with hands and footwork/coordination, which make up an essential foundation to build upon.
You're fighting the good fight, Badlee, but you're wasting your keystrokes. Nothing will matter until he actually becomes a good player, and even then, nobody's going to admit they were wrong.
hakeem started playing bball late! ok let me put it to u this way have you ever seen hill create for himself 2-3 times in a row? its always a good pass or something spoon feed! and this "athleticism" he has, has he ever jammed for an ally oop? which leads me to believe that the coaches dont have faith in his mental/hands (hands or lack of) alertness to give him simple ally oop play, otherwise at least 2 a game are a given but there not!
This is one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard read. Footwork is a skill, and like all skills can be learned. You think Hakeem was doing dream shakes when he was 9 years old? Sure, there's no chance JH will ever reach Hakeem's level, however if he works hard at it I don't see how HIll can't develop good footwork in a couple of years. Its just a matter of time and effort. As to your question, yes a guy with no rhythm can indeed learn how to dance. He just has to put a lot more effort than someone like Usher.
While footwork can be improved, it is also a skill. There's a reason big, uncoordinated big men don't suddenly become the masters of post footwork. The reason Hakeem was so great at it was his background in soccer (which helps tremendously because the focus of the game is on your footwork). So yes, Jordan Hill can be taught certain moves. But the difference between that and Hakeem? Hakeem made moves as a reaction to what you did; JHill will be planning the move he's going to make before making it. Footwork is more than a matter of time and effort -- it requires skill and coordination, two things which Jordan Hill doesn't have in abundance.
I would not say he sucks, but Patterson does have more upside than Hill. Maybe Hill could, in our near future be our 2nd preference at the 5 spot. A solid role player.
