According to KILT's Lance Zerlein, Austin Croshere has narrowed his choices to Toronto and Indiana. Zerlein was quoting a report from a Toronto newspaper (sorry, couldn't find it online) saying that Croshere will choose between re-signing with the Pacers and signing with Toronto. Croshere is the Raptors top priority since losing Tracy McGrady to Orlando.

Did we really think he was coming here? I thought we had a shot, but we just didn't have the money. A sigh and trade would have been difficult.

Well, since Croshere is out of the picture, the course of action would appear to be something like this:

    1. Strongly pursue the Cato-Fizer swap
    2. Make a serious play for Rashard Lewis, either now or 2001
    3. Hopefully this tidbit will push Cuttino to re-sign with Houston

If Toronto somehow signs Mobley and Croshere, I would have no problem lumping them in with the Jazz, Knicks, Lakers, Spurs, and Bulls as one of my most hated teams ...

I was under the impression that $5.5 mil that the Raptors were offering Cuttino was cap space, so if they get Croshere, they won't be in position to offer the same money.

Sorry if I'm repeating something that has already been discussed

    davo,

what do you think of the off season so far?

I know you were rooting against the Magic and Bulls.

Check out the last two paragraphs of the article Achebe linked to. It appears that Jerome Williams is about to become available. The Pistons want to clear out cap room for the 2001 offseason.

"Around the league, the Detroit Pistons have apparently wrested power forward Ben Wallace away from Orlando and are also close to a deal with backup Magic point guard Chucky Atkins.

That has fuelled speculation the Pistons are looking to deal point guard Lindsay Hunter and power forward Jerome Williams, both of whom have been named in trade rumours with Toronto. If the Pistons are trying to clear cap room in a Hunter-Williams deal, they'd likely want someone whose contract runs out at the end of the 2000-01 season. Antonio Davis and Doug Christie can both opt out of their deals then and Alvin Williams is a free agent at the same time."

of more note, Detroit "guaranteed" Atkins the starting PG spot. Cleaves is their prodigal son, he's gonna be playing, leaving Lindsey Hunter as the odd man out. Hunter is the ideal Mobley replacement IMO, and a deal for Williams/Hunter would be very beneficial if Mobley leaves. It may be good to hear that Croshere is still possible to Toronto, as many rumors say he's ahead of Cuttino on their list.

Yeah, from my understanding of the Raptors salary situation, if they sign Croshere Cuttino should return as they would not have the money for him.

Plus I would hope Cuttino would resign anyway. You have to believe it would offend him a little, as the Raptors must be saying something to the effect of "Well we can give you this money IF Croshere, Lewis, and some others turn us down..." Knowing Cat's ego as we do, I would guess he would take some offense at that. Just a thought...
