Yes, the Rockets would get younger, taller, and presumably smarter with this trade, but I don't see Minny settling for just Brooks.
I would do it without thinking twice. I don't know if Rubio is going to be as good as advertised, but until we get a superstar player, everything we do is in vain. Rubio could be a bust, but he could also be that superstar player.
Brooks has the worst decision making as a point guard, especially when the shotclock is down to 5 4 3 2 then he passes it off.... No clock management what so ever Rubio > Brooks Honestly, I don't see this trade going down ever

He's struggling in Europe this year esp with his shot. How he handles the extended 3 point line in the NBA is also also a real question, he's shooting 18% (11/61 from the shorter 3 pt line in Europe. Yeah he's a great passer but unless he can get people to respect his shot they'll play him for the pass and take that weapon away from him. Minny would never offer this, but we should pounce if they do. Maybe Rubio busts or won't come to Houston or never develops a shot. It's certainly a risk. But Morey and Les have said we'll never tank, and Houston is not a glamor city that free agents will flock to, so if we want a superstar, we're gonna have to throw the dice. If all it costs us is Brooks and a first, that's as good of a gamble as we're likely to find.
I can't believe this is even a question.. Give me the obvious choice... Ricky Rubio!! The guys tools are made more for the NBA, where there's a lot more spacing and guard play, then in Europe.. Brooks is good and all, but his too one dimensional and has already tapped out his potential to grow as a player. Plus in this upcoming draft players like Kemba Walker, Brandon Knight and Josh Selby can replace him.. Also if we trade for Rubio, and draft a scoring PG, it would allow us to trade Lowry in this upcoming off-season to upgrade at a different position!!
I have access to all his games and have watched them all for the last 2 yrs. Think a smaller, less explosive shaun livingston if that helps. Even now with the past injuries, livingston is a better athlete. Now, we dont know what livingston couldve been minus the injuroes, but he had great vision and handle, shaky shot,weak body,great. One of the reasons shaun looked special was the quickness,speed,and explosion at 6'7. Rubio has none of that. If you're a 6'4 pg with slow feet, you better be strong,fast, or capable of abusing the smaller or average sized guards. He cant do that and that will hurt. If he was a knockdown, pullup shooter, that would help too,but he cant. What are we left with? A guy westbrook,rose,and williams will overpower and a guy parker,brooks,and felton will blow by. I didnt say he cant be solid,but he will never be special.
I'm not the one that compared him to Kidd. I was responding to someone else that did. Can't really say it's an insult comparing a player to another, many young players coming up are almost always compared to an NBA vet, especially ones as highly touted as Rubio. Examples such as Evan Turner to Brandon Roy, Kobe to Jordan and so on. Now, the comparisons don't always translate, but it is what it is. lee, I'm not one to say Rubio is going to be a superstar, he may be good he may not. Rubio's vision and court awareness is very special, everything else is up for debate.
If he could develop it over time, then why doens't he start now? Kidd didn't have one because he wasn't reliant on it in college, the level of competition was low enough so that he didn't need it. Rubio has been straight up awful for about a year now, teams know he can't shoot and they dare him to do so...and he hasn't responded at all.
Perhaps to the point of being able to trade Aaron Brooks for him? I think I'd still take that gamble. Watching him play, his style seems so much more suited for the NBA. The only thing I've really seen of his game play is extended highlights; but he looks like he has the ball skills to get past ANY defender.
