No, after you. If you'd bother to read my past posts you'd realize that I absolutely detest Bud Adams and his football team. So sorry if my observations don't meet with your satisfaction but this is a discussion forum after all. If it offends your sense of homerism, you are in the wrong place. When you have something germane to add to said discussion I'm all ears.
Hillboy, this is your 3rd, 4th... maybe 5th post that denigrates Phillips' 09 season while ignoring the very plainly obvious fact that their defense was a top 9 unit his first three years, ranked higher than Parcells' defenses the previous three years. While last year can certainly be classified as concerning, I guess, the three years prior come pretty close to rendering it a likely aberration. I would say their bigger issue is coaching, scheme and.or philosophy, not drafting. Their track record actually isn't that bad: two DROYs; a Pro Bowler in Mario Williams; a by all-accounts decent DB in Glover Quin... and if Phillips (and staff) prove to be a better teacher/coach than Smith and/or Bush, they still have quite a few young guys (Okoye, Barwin, Nolan, Jackson, Mitchell) who might yet be able to reach their potential.
I think Donny and everyone else is just sick of people like Ric making excuses for a ****ty franchise. We are upset enough with the team, fans like Ric are only making things worse
Just because I'm not swimming in the same deep pool of vitriol that you and others are doesn't make me an apologist. I repeatedly asked for examples of me being unreasonable and those invitations have been uniformly ignored. I've been critical of McNair, I called for Kubiak's firing, I eye-rolled their "search" for new defensive coordinator... I just don't make it a habit of dipping my posts in a vat of heated hate oil.
You're right..they were .500 this year, but they won two of those games against teams starting back up quarterbacks. (Third string QB in the Tenessee game).
I was merely suggesting that if you get such an intensely negative vibe from the HoustonTexans maybe you should look elsewherefor your football fulfillment. Why torture yourself?
That little fact would mean something had they lost either of those games. Since they were games they should have won, it's pretty irrelevant.
Ha! Just to reassure everyone, we are on the right track going into year 6 of Kubiak era! Don't worry! /rant/Yeah I know, I could, should move on, I'm "crying" over spilled milk, etc. but damn it kills me to see some of these teams turn it around and have success in less time. Yet, here we are going backwards and got Bob McNair saying he never seen anything like that(so many close losses!) and how injuries to DeMeco and Barwin and so on, so forth hurt us and derailed us(as if injuries dont happen to other teams), all while giving Kubiak a pat on the back for his "great work". \rant\
Should have won?? What makes you think we would have won either one of those games? We were free-falling after the 4-2 start. The only reason we didn't finish the season on a 10-game losing streak is because we beat the titans with their 3rd string QB and the Jags with their starting QB and RB out of the game. But don't worry. We're on the right track. We're so close!
"Should have won"? There were a lot of games the Texans "should have won" based on who we thought they were. But guess what (Denny Green)? THEY'RE NOT WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!! As a matter of fact, they sucked. Hard. Again. So no, those were not games they "should have won". As it turns out, the quality wins they had early were pleasant surprises for an otherwise pedestrian team.
It's not the head coach, it's the owner. The Texans aren't going anywhere until McNair sells the team. Honestly, though, looking back on it, the first bad omen was the embarrassingly bad name Uncle Bob chose for his new team.
Bruce Matthews expected to join Titans staff Never actually signed the contract so he is still free. F**K I don't care that much that we're losing him, but it's just ****ty that he got a year to get to know our offense and now he's undoubtedly going to use it against us, however small of a factor that may be in the matchup. Remember, Sage used it against us in the Giants game this year.
The first thing that ran through my mind when I read this article was, "Well, we know that's at least TWO weeks where Bruce is going to be hailed a hero in his locker room." If this was happening to any other franchise, it wouldn't even cause a ripple, but since it's the Texans, I guarantee we are going to be hearing how Bruce Matthews and his inside information about our playbook was a key factor in the Titans' 31-7 drubbing of our battlefightin' kids.
OK, I can understand your point here. I was a bit miffed at those folks who used the word "turd" to describe the Texans. They may be many things but "turd" is not one of them. Now the Oilers were a different story because they were "turds" or worse for many, many years.
The playbook where they 1- Don't give Arian enough carries half the game. 2- WR screen to Andre. 3- Force the ball to Jacoby. I'm not that worried about them knowing a gameplan that should be evolving anyways. What I would be worried about is that he would give the Titans inside track on ZBS and have ideas on how to negate Leach and Foster.
