You keep ignoring the fact that the 2006 Heat were a 50 win team... while the Lakers of 06 and 07 were lucky to win 40 games with that scrubby ass line up. Wade didn't have "less" in 06 when they won the championship.

Your argument that the Mavericks were a great team is laughable. Pure comedy. No "great" team allows one player to take over... and that's exactly what the Mavericks allowed Wade to do. If Wade played the Celtics of 2008 or 2010, he wouldn't have been able to go off. I don't know if you watched the Mavs-Heat series, but anyone with any basketball IQ knows the Mavs weren't "elite" in that series.

Furthermore, arguing that he beat one great team doesn't mean much since it wasn't just Wade who beat the Pistons. That whole Heat team beat the Pistons... so I don't know why you keep bringing them up.

You can have your opinions about the powerhouses/playoff teams in the west from 2008-2010 and what the Lakers had to do, but I know most people would agree that going through the first two rounds in the west between 2008-2010 was no piece of cake like the east was 2006.

I'm not ignoring anything. You are implying that the Heat had it easy in the East when they won their title. That simply isn't true. They had to knock off a great Pistons team to get to the Finals (Champion in 04, barely lost in Game 7 of Finals in 05, won 64 games...more than any other team in basketball...in 06). LA didn't beat one team as good as the Pistons to get to the Finals over the last 3 years. That really isn't debatable.

The 06 Mavericks were a better team than any team LA has faced in the Western Conference over the last 3 seasons.

And if Kobe had to face the 06 Pistons in any of the last 3 seasons then he may not have gotten back to the Finals, or have you forgotten 2004 already? "If's" mean nothing, but you implying that the Heat had it easy in the East when they had to beat Detroit makes no sense.

No one player just beats anybody. I can't think of anyone who has won without a lot of help on their team. And since you are a Kobe defender, he himself has never won without having arguably the best supporting cast in basketball. Everyone needs help.

And on that same note, there was no team in the Conf Finals that was on par with who Miami had to beat to get to the Finals. The Nuggets and Suns?? The Spurs with a hobbled Manu and a super old roster? LOL. :) :) :)

No a fan of either player but talent is talent.

It will be interesting to see how Miami does in the playoffs. The regular season is nothing but nonsense as far as I'm concerned. Its only about playoff seeding for the contending teams.

That being said, I think Miami will have a successful playoff run. Idk if they will win it all, but they will be right in the mix. (Barring injuries of course)

On another note, I'm surprised that it took until Feb. for the first 50 pt game of the season to happen.

Would have thought some player on a bad team would have erupted for it already.

At least nobody dropped 50 on us

I know you have a man-crush on LeBron and everything but c'mon, you know that isn't true.

Other have come close....like this guy in L.A. I think his name is Griffin.

    not enough assists.

Honestly, he is probably right, the last person to have the ability to pull off something like that was probably a prime Kobe or Orlando Tmac.

The original argument was that Kobe somehow had it easier because he had a better supporting cast... which is true... but you can't compare Wade's and Kobe's championships because of the competition.

I said it was a cakewalk to the ECF in 2006. They did have it easy up until that point. Then, the MIAMI HEAT beat the Pistons. The original argument was that Wade won with less than what Kobe won with. That's not true at all. Like you said, the Lakers had the same amount of talent as the Celtics. The Heat also had the same amount of talent as the Pistons. Wade didn't beat them alone.

When I said that Wade played in a weaker Eastern conference, the first two rounds of the playoffs, it was an easy road for the Heat up UNTIL they played the Pistons. The Lakers almost got knocked out TWICE in the first round by two teams (Rockets, Thunder)... so what I'm arguing is getting to the ECF wasn't really a hard thing to do for Wade and the Heat. It's really the same thing with LeBron when the Cavs went to the Finals in 2007. Sure the Lakers didn't play anyone as tough as the Pistons up until the Finals in 2010 when they played the Celtics... but arguing that the Mavs were better than ANY team that the Lakers faced (Nuggets, Suns) is just stupidity. If the Mavs were better than those teams, they sure as hell didn't play like a better team in the Finals and it had nothing to do with the Heat.

Now, about the Lakers and Kobe playing the 06 Pistons.... the Lakers from 2008 on are/were a better team than that Pistons team. After all... you said they have as much talent as the 08 and 10 Celtics and we both agreed that the Celtics were a tougher team than the 06 Pistons. So, I would think that the Lakers would get past the 06 Pistons. 04 has nothing to do with anything. Is Shaq still on the Lakers? Malone? Payton? Two completely different teams. I would agree though, if's don't mean anything... but the point I was trying to make is that the Mavericks weren't a good defensive team in that series and that's why he went off. If he had played a great defensive team like Kobe did, you can make the argument that a team like the Celtics would not have allowed Wade to go off (just as they have done with Kobe these last few years).

Wade didn't beat the Mavs with less than what Kobe beat the Celtics with. This is strictly talking about the finals. You can't compare the Mavs to the Celtics when the Celtics are light years better. The Mavs and the Heat matched up in talent as the Celtics and Lakers match up in talent.

The fact that Lebron played PF SF and PG in that game, while Griffin only played PF, says it all.

James' performance was among his all-time greatest performances. It was his highest rebound total in a 50-plus-point game and the second highest in rebounds plus assists in a 50-plus-point game. Historically, it was only the fourth 50-plus-point, 11-plus rebound, 8-plus-assist game in history, with Jordan, Bryant, and Wade owners of the other three. It's the second highest field goal percentage in such an effort, behind Jordan's 20 of 28 performance in '89. And with Wade and Bryant's both coming in a triple-overtime and double-overtime game respectively, Jordan and James are the only two players in history to complete a 50-11-8 game in regulation. What's more? This was the slowest-paced game of those historic efforts, with an estimated 88 possessions, while Bryant's was at 90. This wasn't just a herculean effort, it was the very model of modern efficiency.

What was funny to me was Dwight Howard's little pre-game shot-taking at LeBron. Hey Dwight, why don't you develop your ofensive game, learn how to catch an entry pass, not get blocked by 6'4" Dwayne Wade, dominate in a playoff series, or make the guys around you better. I am not a LeBron fan, but if Lebron were to pull something like that in taunting an opponent, we would not hear the last from the media about it. Dwight is a solid player and I GUESS the best center in the NBA, but that's like saying you are the least smelly person in France. If he was playing in 1995 he would be probably the 7th best Center in the NBA, behing Hakeem, Shaq, Ewing, Robinson, Mourning, Deke, and maybe even Rik Smits. Don't laugh at the Rik Smits, him and Yao are similar players and you see how Yao dominates Dwight regularly. He has been in the NBA what 7 years now and still has not developed his game? Grow up Dwight. I'm not a fan of "The Decision" but a free-gent has a right to pick where he wants to go. KG whined his way out of Minny and everyone forgets that. Kobe kicked and screamed tryng to get out of LA, but everyone forgets that. Look, the only old-school professional that has won multiple rings and played for one team that is playing right now is Tim Duncan. I hate San Antonio, but I respect Timmy. Not babies like Dwight.

    From Marc Stein's Weekend Dime

[rquoter]Five pertinent factoids in the wake of LeBron James' 51 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in Miami's win Thursday night in Orlando:

    1. It was the season's first 50-point game from any player and James' ninth career 50-point game ... all of which have come on the road.

    2. LeBron is tied for third all-time with Kobe Bryant with those nine 50-point games on the road. Wilt Chamberlain is tops with 46 and Michael Jordan had 13. The arenas where LeBron has scored 50: New York's Madison Square Garden (twice), Milwaukee's Bradley Center (twice), Toronto's Air Canada Centre, Utah's EnergySolutions Arena, Memphis' FedExForum, Sacramento's ARCO Arena and Orlando's Amway Center.

    3. LeBron made his first 11 shots. That's the longest run of consecutive makes at any point in any regular-season game in his career.

    4. No opposing player had scored more than 36 points (Kevin Durant) against Orlando this season before James, who had 29 points in Thursday's first half. That tied Portland's Wesley Matthews for the second-biggest opening half of the season; Houston's Kevin Martin scored 32 points in the first half against Cleveland on Dec. 11.

    5. The Elias Sports Bureau reports that 1,263 regular-season games were played in the league between LeBron's eruption and the last 50-point game: Andre Miller's 52 points in Dallas on Jan. 30, 2010. Elias says it's the second-longest stretch in NBA history without a 50-point game behind the 1,338 games that elapsed between Karl Malone's 56 points on April 7, 1998, and Clifford Robinson's 50 on Jan. 16, 2000.

    50 Points, 10 Reb., 8 Assists -- Last 25 Seasons

    LeBron James Thursday 51-11-8
    Dwyane Wade Mar. 14, 2009 50-10-9
    Kobe Bryant Dec. 15, 2006 53-10-8
    Michael Jordan Jan. 21, 1989 53-14-8

despite the fact h almost single handedly lost the game in the last 2 minutes, he played really well for the other 40 odd minutes he was on court.

What a completely arbitrary stat though, who counts to 8 for those things?

However I'm kind of surprised the Big 0 never did a 50/10/10

Kobe's was done in overtime, but someone already pointed out that the number of possessions in Kobe's game was almost identical to the number in Lebron's game on Thursday. So there was more time, but not really more opportunities.

Kobe has only beaten 1 60+ win team in the playoffs, and it was when he was with Shaq.

The best teams that Lakers have played in the Finals, they lost to 04 Pistons and 08 Celtics.

Pacers; 76ers; Nets; Pistons; Celtics (twice); and the Magic.

None of those teams are not really anything to write home about.

The Thunder; Jazz; and Suns was their Western Conference opponents last year, with the year before that it was the Nuggets, Rockets (without any big men); and the Jazz.

I do not see any teams on there comparable to 96 Sonics; 96-98 Jazz; 87-88 Pistons; 70-71 Lakers; 95 Spurs and etc.

The modern version of the Lakers have had it fairly easy in the playoffs; I would hate to see them face a team that is well-rounded from top to bottom.

60+ teams says more about the rest of the conference than the team, the east had 2? 33? teams with better records than the lakers last year, but the 8th seed in the west would have been equal 4th in the east.

you have more control over possessions than over time. for example kobe could've taken a shot every time with 20 secs on the clock, if he wanted to get more possessions. and he took more shots than lebron anyway doesn't that mean more opportunities?

I don't get this part, didn't Kobe do enough to win the game, like got 10 points in 4th quarter?
When you grab 10 more rebounds than your average, you can afford to use those extra possessions to shoot more times and get the same points with lower percentage.

This is a myth too. I don't get how Ron shooting 7-18 38.8% in game 7 was a bailing out. It's more like if Ron could have shot this below average percentage consistently, they'd probably win in 6.

And no, if you did watch game 3. Kobe carried the team for 3.5 quarters, and Fisher closed it out. And Fisher was able to make it because Kobe would attract double team setting a pick for Fisher, gave Fisher an open to hit those mid-jumpers.
