I've personally think the NBA's referees have gotten progressively worse the last few years. Instead of concentrating on improving their referees, the NBA has opted to give more power to the refs to T up players complaining, which ends up hurting the product on the floor. While the NCAA doesn't have the best referees in the world, but I don't feel it's as bad as the NBA refs are. I think the NCAA referees get bullied by coaches much easier then NBA refs do, but overall better quality.
What makes matters worse is that there is no transparency between the League and its teams to illustrate how the refs performance is evaluated throughout the year. The League keeps everything behind closed doors. The first step to fixing NBA refs is to get rid of Joey Crawford. After that, develop a system of accountability where the League evaluates the accuracy of all calls, and releases the results. No more hiding, no more good ol' boy network. Only the most consistently accurate refs officiate the playoffs and out of that smaller group, only the most accurate in the playoffs officiate the finals. Refs could earn playoff bonus's based on the accuracy of their calls and whether or not they make it to the post season. Take emotion, grudges, and power-trips out of it and improve the product for all of us to enjoy.
its obvious the refs are given instructions by a hand me down from stern have u watched kobe elbow somebody then get a foul ok, nobody on the planet would call that so obivously someone is telling them call a fould when kobe elbows on the offense on whoever he elbows
I don't think NCAA refs give superstar treatment like NBA refs, so I think they are better. Why do the refs have to help superstars? They'll be superstars even without the help.
First of all, baseball umpires annoy me way more than NBA refs, especially the whole "I have my own personal strike zone" BS. As for between NCAA and the NBA, it depends on what you're asking. In terms of skill, I would take NBA refs over any other ref in the world, including Euroball, NCAA, FIBA, whatever. That said, the way NBA refs officiate the game annoys the hell out of me. But I'm more of a basketball fan rather than ESPN-highlight/superstar fan. So I don't mind calling travels to promote passing and team-play. That said, I do realize that the NBA must cater to the general public, who really can't tell and don't give a damn about the way games are officiated. A player who takes 5 steps into the lane for a dunk looks much cooler than a 16 foot jumpshot.
**** the refs. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nxNNV6Jl2DQ" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
lmao, intramural refs are the worst because they require no qualification. I've almost lost limbs and the ability to produce children during intramural basketball games, with no fouls called. It's like a WWE/XFL basketball league.
I used to never believe that, but the more I see how bad the refs are, I'm thinking it's not that the refs are bad, it's the plan!
This is what irks me about the officiating of these 2 leagues in general. In the NBA traveling is never called, yet the slightest fouls are. In the NCAA you can play physical but God forbid these amateur student-athletes ever shuffle their feet. Its backwards!
Duh..NCAA officials are worse...How dare they have jurisdiction over a glorified pickup game of non paid athletes making tons of money for their masters....shame
