Thank goodness. If it's a one year deal I'm fine with it. We weren't going to contend for a title next year no matter what, so what's the harm in waiting? Next year is our big offseason anyway. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com
One problem- the report they have on the inside says by the CBA it should be a TWO year deal, which contradicts the front page entirely. But I guess we'll just wait and see. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited July 25, 2000).]
NBATALK: Lewis Tells Sonics He's Sticking Around The Seattle Supersonic's have confirmed that Rashard Lewis will be returning to the Sonics next year. The Sonics would not divulge contract numbers but under the CBA the number should be a 2 year deal around $3.5 to $4 million for the first year. Lewis was courted heavily by the Toronto Raptors, who were offering more money, but in the end, Lewis' relationship with the Sonics held firm. ------------------
NBATALK is crap anyway but sources close to the situation are saying it is indeed a two year deal. ------------------
They just changed the front page to say two. Still I am somewhat questionable of them on that matter, because all they are going by is the CBA and it seems like that gets Lewis the most money so they are assuming that. Nothing has been said yet officially, so at least there is hope I believe that it's a one year deal. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com
Cat, Sources close to the Sonics are saying it is going to be a two year deal. The Sonics owner and Payton both talked to Lewis and my original prediction is now coming to fruition. The Sonics need their $2.25 exception and Payton told Lewis not hurt the team and the Sonics owner probably promised to take care of him (i.e. give him the max and maybe even his own hip hop radio show like he did with Payton). ------------------
Wow, interesting comments from Lewis. He is currently working out at the Rockets practice facility but says he will be in Seattle on the 1st to sign the deal. Lewis said he really likes Seattle and sees himself playing his whole career there. He said really good stuff about Seattle's two assitant coaches (Nate McMillan was one, I can't remember the name of the other). They didn't talk contract details but it sounded like he will take the two year deal and then sign for the max (it sounded like the Sonics owner has promised to do this no matter what). ------------------
Now, let's put it this way. Which would Lewis prefer to play Rockets with the max or Sonics with the max. It wil be pretty close call but I think we'll get the Lewis' vote. So basically Soncis won't have pay him the max...so if I was Lewis I will look ask a one year deal then return to Houston next year, asking the max. Is there anyway that Lewis can sign one year deal? ------------------ Hack a Shaq you'll be winning Hack-him you'll be dreaming.
Yes, but it doesn't sound like it is going to happen. I just heard the Lewis interview on the Seattle station and it doesn't sound like he is coming to play for the Rockets anytime soon. ------------------
He definitely could, and his family said that they expected him to as well. But RT45's says sources say it will be for two years, so we'll just have to wait until the 1st and see. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com
RT45- Yes, I'm sure he did sound like he was impressed with the Sonics. (I missed the interview) But you have to remember that this was a Seattle station interviewing him. What is he supposed to sound like, that he doesn't like the Sonics and will leave after one season? I guarantee you his tone may have been different if this were a Houston station, although still positive about the Sonics. My point is don't expect him to be totally honest on a Seattle station with all of Seattle listening. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com
JV, Only if Rashard signs an Early Bird contract, which must be a minimum of 2 years. If he wants to be a free agent next year, he must sign the Mid Level exception for only $2.5mil. ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
