Ish is the real deal. His uncanny ability to see passing angles and deliver pinpoint passes, even this early in his career, is rare among the pg's in the NBA. Adelman should also utilize his excellent playmaking abilities by giving him more freedom to create and hold the ball more instead of passing off to his team mates at the initial point of attack on the offense. He should be given the green light to read the defense first and make decisions before handing the ball off and stand in a corner waiting for the high post to initiate the attack. He is too gifted to just be standing around in the corner during the initial thrust of the offense.
Way too early to tell on Ish. Obviously he has potential. Our coaching staff/GM sees something in him. And sometimes he shows flashes of the player we want him to be. He WILL have to grow into that player. One of the last games that I remember Ish getting significant playing time, he dribbled into the teeth of the defense and coughed it up twice, the second time out of pure frustration from the FIRST mistake. But most people need time in their jobs to improve and flourish.
I know people get carried away comparing our young guys to some really great players but Ish can really be the next Rajon Rondo.
Carried away yet. Rondo is a top 5 pg in this league. Do you really think Ish Smith can be a top 5 pg in this league?
Rotational player. If you've spent 4 years in the ACC (Wake Forest) and your shooting % basically declined over those 4 years...there is the possibility you may not have the inate capability to improve that aspect of your game very significantly. If you can't shoot well in the half-court set, eventually elite (and even good) defensive units will back off and inhibit your ability to drive. That negates a huge portion of your passing skills.
Dude, come on, Rondo controls the game like no other PGuard can do and his defense is top notch. Rondo has unique features to his game that make him special, I like Ish as much as the next guy but comparing him to Rondo does him no favors.
