How do some of you come up with ratings like 8.3/10 or 7.34/10??? Do you have an algorithm that gives you those exact numbers? Anyway, 127 hours - 8.09/10
Last few movies I watched Food Inc. 0.8/1 Black Swan 0.91/1 Feel i have to rewatch in case i missed anything. BTw Natalie Portman ....giggity (hence the .01) True Grit 0.9/1 I recently started appreciating westerns a lot more. Might have to watch the original but good to see remakes are top quality. (True Grit, 5:10 to Yuma)
The Social Network 7/10 - I was disappointed. I think Pirates of Silicon Valley was better. I could not tell if the guy playing Zuck was a bad actor or if Zuck really is that much of an socially inept *ss! Rocket River
Red: 8.5/10 pretty fun movie, lots of action, good laughs.. Biutiful: 9.25/10 at times hard to watch but the emotional roller coaster is pretty amazing...this movie isn't for everyone, but I really really enjoyed it. Salt: 7.5/10. Can't remember if I rated this already..
Saw this one on Sunday: The Mechanic - 7.0 - Solid action movie, could have used another sequence or two, no romantic nonsense.
Club Dread - 4/10 - No where near as great BL's Supertroopers or Beerfest. I expected it to be just as good. Some boobs are in this movie, if that's your kind of thing. I thought Coconut Pete and his Pinacoladaberg song were funny as hell.
127 Hours (90%) - I went in with fairly high expectations for this, and they were met. Concerns that the movie would drag because it was centered around such a confined, solitary space proved to be unwarranted, as Boyle keeps the pace up with the use of crafty editing and well placed flashbacks. In addition, the cinematography, directing, editing, and acting were all excellent, and music was used very effectively. This film shares some of the same themes as Into The Wild, so if you're a fan of that movie then I imagine this would be right up your alley as well. I have not seen The King's Speech so I can't give a direct comparison to Colin Firth, but I will say that James Franco was damn near perfection in this role. He was literally the only character in about 90% of the scenes, and also didn't have the luxury of playing off of two great actors (Rush and Bonham Carter). Also, Franco was much more impressive than Eisenburg, who I actually think was outperformed by Andrew Garfield.
Starship Troopers 6/10 Some of the effects were bad but I actually liked this movie and I am usually not a sci-fi person, I mean I haven't even seen Star Wars except for the Phantom Menace but I did like Starship Troopers.....oh well.
Yeah, I figured I'd get some reaction for that. I have A New Hope, Return of the Jedi and Empire Strikes Back on VHS but have never bothered to watch them and probably won't for a while since there is no VCR in my home.
Before Sunset 9/10 This is the sequel to Before Sunrise, which is basically one of my favorite movies ever. The film did a good job explaining what the original story arc was and bringing you forward without interrupting the sequel's story. You instantly remember how and why these two people fell in love and you are rooting for them to get back together. The ending lets you make that choice for yourself.
Good call. Ethan Hawke is one of the most underrated actors out there. If you are a fan of his, I recommend "Tape". Great movie.
Effectos Secundarios: 6/10...and thats generous b/c of what little t&a they had The American: 6.5/10. And that's generous b/c of how fine Ciara was...mmm...
I actually own both on DVD, and I'm not even a big movie collector. Judging by the covers, they both scream "chick flick", but the tone of it is more along the lines of something like 500 Days of Summer. It deals more in the cold, harsh realities of life and love, but still leaves that little glimmer of hope. It all feels very true and familiar (aside from the setting). I highly recommend both, and have probably done so once already in this very thread.
