    I'm surprised there isn't a thread up.

My SMU mustangs have pulled in an incredible class, leading Conference USA in average recruit ranking. The class is highlighted by DE/OLB Davon Moreland, a four-star recruit from California. I believe he is SMU's first four-star quality high school recruit since the early 80's.

June Jones believes that the Mustangs are still a recruiting class and a half away from having real depth on the team. I'd agree with him, and once that depth is there SMU will be one of the most dangerous non-AQ schools in the country.

The national scene breaks down like this:

    Here is Rival's Top 50

Here's the top Top 10 right now at 2PM. I'm sure it will change today as LOIs continue to roll in:

    #1
    Alabama
    #2
    Auburn
    #3
    Florida State
    #4
    USC
    #5
    Texas
    #6
    Georgia
    #7
    LSU
    #8
    Clemson
    #9
    Notre Dame
    #10
    Ohio State

    SMU is cheating again? :p

I don't pay attention to these rankings, like much of college football, it's all talk.

I'm with you on that. It's what's done on that field that counts. Florida State really been racking up some great players though.

It's a good idea to not take the ratings too seriously, but they are definitely useful. Again, there are plenty of five-star recruits that will never play and there are two-star recruits that will turn into Earl Thomas... but the ratings are a very good guide of who is rising and who is falling in college football.

See, I used to think that too, then I noticed that guys who are rated/perceived really high tend to "drop" very quickly if they start taking offers from less influential programs... while no-namers all the sudden become blue-chippers if they get on with a big name program. It's all a dog and pony show to piss on some people and stroke others' egos.

The odds are against ANY recruit doing that well in college, yahoo did an interesting survey last week where they did the odds for each tier of becoming all american, they're bad for everybody. In fact, 90% plus against. becoming one

Therefore it's more likely than not that ANY prospect who gets any hype is going to be overhyped.

However there are substantial differences between the tiers' chances at making it even that far, if you're a player therein, via Yahoo!, the numbers are something like ~10% for 5-stars, 2% for 4-stars, <1% for 3-stars.

Surprised to see A&M fall so low from the last couple of years. Baylor makes top 50 again.

I wouldn't be happy either if my kid signed a LOI to Auburn too.

I hope he's good. Now that Greg Davis is out, he'll be running forward instead of side ways.

After watching some of his footage, I really have some high hopes for this kid.

Jimbo Fisher at FSU really must have been working his tail off. Some services had his class ranked #1 heading into yesterday.

Worst TAMU class in years. Oh well... these rankings usually mean little to nothing once things pan out.

"Notre Dame is finished. They can't recruit any of the southern kids; heck, they can't recruit period!"

-Brian Kelly's first recruiting class: Top 10
-Included in that is two elite DEs, one from Georgia and the other from Florida

Also noteworthy is Tubberville already out-recrutiing Sherman. I was really happy with TommyT's hire given the circumstances and he's done a great job with his first recruiting class. This first class might be more talented than ANY of Leach's former classes -- though don't quote me on that.
