LOL I just blew this pic up to full size...holy crap man did you use all the duct tape you could find at Home Depot? ROFL That's enough duct tape to put together a Ben Roethlisberger rape kit!
I will ignore the Swoly reply and stick with the facts. Years ago when we were still in Houston and had 3 straight days in the 20s, we took a box, and fit a hair dryer in it and put it up against that pipe that pops up from underground into the garage. It probably took less than 30 minutes to unfreeze that part of the pipe and fortunately, that was the only place it was frozen.
I used one of those microwave heat packs and wrapped it with a towel around the pipes... That retained heat in the cold air outside for well over 15 minutes. If that was actually my water pipe, I am sure it would have gotten the job done.
Frozen pipes is no laughing matter, they can burst and you'll have a lot of water everywhere. You need to find the exposed pipe, faucets outside the house, thaw them out and then put insulation over them during the day today, don't wait until they burst.
Handy (serious) tip: Check where the water line comes up into the attic - that section of pipe is especially prone to freezing because it is not only in the attic, but it's also up against the side of the house. Make sure it's insulated well.
Update: Something burst in my backyard. It's going crazy... Apparently my pipes aren't frozen? Hopefully the City water people can come over and shut my water off
That's your sprinkler system. There is a shut off valve on one or both sides of that release fixture. Go turn it so that it is perpendicular to the pipe. LOL, that is one you definitely should have wrapped!
I live in Lubbock and its been snowing the last couple of days. Today with the wind chill its in the negative teens. The only thing that froze was the washing machine pipes. I tried to do a wash but it wouldnt fill. I came up with the not so brilliant idea to fill just enough water myself to do the load, but when it came to draining time the water started shooting back out of the pipe so I stopped it immediately. Do you guys think this is something that will need to be fixed or it will starting working normally again when its not frozen?
do like master said and turn that valve. go to hardware store and buy some real pipe insulation... not a freaking microwaved bag and towel. thanks for the laugh though.
Bless his heart, he neglects to wrap his water pipes AND sprinkler system but does remember to wrap his GAS METER with 3 rolls of duct tape. You can't make this stuff up!
