http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_Waive_Kurtz_and_Watson-55406-34.html Watson HOUSTON (Oct. 16, 2002) - The Houston Rockets have waived centers Brandon Kurtz and Sonny Watson, general manager Carroll Dawson announced today. After participating in training camp, neither player made an appearance in a preseason game. Kurtz joined the Rockets after spending this past season with Istanbul Technics University in Turkey, Fillattice Imola in Italy and the St. Louis Sky Hawks of the USBL. The 6-10, 245-pound center had spent the previous year with the USBL’s Oklahoma Storm in his first professional season. Following two seasons at Bakersfield College, Kurtz averaged 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two seasons at Tulsa, earning All-Western Athletic Conference Second Team recognition as both a junior and a senior. Watson averaged 5.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the Shenzhen Yikang of the China Basketball Association during the 2001-2002 season. The 6-11, 241-pound center also played for the Boston Celtics entry in the 2002 Shaw Summer Pro League of the China Basketball Association, averaging 1.5 points and 2.5 rebounds. He played collegiately at Dixie Junior College. The Houston Rockets roster now stands at 18 players.
I didn't know they had them... That's pretty bad when all three centers are out and these guys and Goodrich don't even get to play. Was Goodrich even suited up?
Instanbul Technics University???? You have got to be kidding ..... Maybe thats where John Turner, Eric Meek, and Venson Hamilton are playing.
Hey watch it buddy, that's my alma mater! It's a great PARTY U!! The women there r hot! And all da brew u can chug!
Just kiddin' codell, i've never attended that U!!! I've never even heard of that school. I graduated from the University of texas Health Science Center in Houston with a B.S. in Nursing, class of 1995! GO ROXS!!!
I wonder about these guys who get waived: do they get anything at all? $500, do not pass go? A lifetime supply of Jiffy-Time Popcorn (t.m. - all rights reserved)?
I would guess that they get about $10k to show up to camp...plus a free jersey with their name on it. I'm interested to see this Hawkins kid play in the game tomorrow if he's healthy enough. It's telling that Hawkins and Mickeal have not been let go yet - maybe Torres isn't a lock just yet. Goodrich might just force Collier to Europe if RT feels he can be a helpful practice guy to develop the motion offense.
SWT has nothing on the chics at SAM HOUSTON, 2-1 girls to guys you can't beat that with a bat! ROX World Champs in 2005!!!
