Chuckles. I find this funny. Someone (that'll be you) who's never used Sina in his life before he googled this bullsh1t from Al Jazeera propose to know how Sina works? Do you even know that Sina DOESN'T have its own search engine? It uses google. I just did a search on Sina, Egypt came out just fine. http://www.google.com.hk/search?cli...utf8&hl=zh-CN&channel=hpsearch&q=%B0%A3%BC%B0 Of course, I just used the keyword "Egypt" so the first link was on visa/tourism, followed by wiki. But in typical google fashion, half way down the page is the news search results, which incidentally are the articles on the current riots from: Sohu: http://www.google.com.hk/search?cli...utf8&hl=zh-CN&channel=hpsearch&q=%B0%A3%BC%B0 Xiamen net: http://news.xmnn.cn/gjxw/201102/t20110202_1697602.htm and WangYi: http://news.163.com/11/0202/07/6RSDQIL000014AED.html all of which are internet portals. The news articles themselves came from: Renmin Net (www.peoples.com.cn), which if you didn't know, is website for People's Daily, labeled as one of the mouth pieces of the CCP. Xinua Net, which speaks for itself. Please, by all means, tell me again how Egypt isn't searchable on Sina.
This was a front page story on Sunday on Al Jazeera's english site. What is AJE's ulterior motive for pointing out that you couldn't search for Egypt on Sina a few days ago, or that Chinese media was not covering the story at the time. Correct me if I am wrong, but if the Chinese government says you cannot search something and if they say you can, then you can almost instantly.
The Chinese government did not block the story. Chinese media was covering it. It didn't start coverage until late 25th/early 26th due to China being 6 hours ahead, but it began coverage right around when anybody would reasonably expect them to. You can find new on the event from everywhere, including Sina, from the 26th, 27th, 28th, so on and so forth. What is Al Jazeera's ulterior motive? I really don't give a hoot. I'm comfortable admitting that I've no idea. You really want to know, ask them. Personally I've always thought they were full of ****, this "news" just reaffirms my belief.
Several Chinese sources, note the date stamp: Sohu (Jan 26, 4:27AM) http://news.sohu.com/20110126/n279087657.shtml Xinhua Net (Jan 26, 11:11:31AM) http://news.xinhuanet.com/world/2011-01/26/c_13707794.htm Wang Yi (Jan 26, 3:06PM) http://news.163.com/photoview/00AO0001/12887.html South Daily (Jan 26, updated Jan 27, 10:16AM), mentions spread of protest from Tunisia http://nf.nfdaily.cn/21cbh/content/2011-01/27/content_19644081.htm Jie Fang Daily (Jan 26, updated Jan 27, 1:22PM) http://www.jfdaily.com/a/1921275.htm
I just watched CCTV4 news. They were talking about Egypt in headline news. Pretty much the same stuff I see here in US. That said, not surprised if they want to regulate for the time being. Too much **** going on already. Don't need any more crap.
Facebook and Twitter will never make it into China. Get ready to buy the Chinese knockoff versions (Chinese facebook IPOs soon).
