They have a poll asking if the Rockets will improve enough to make the playoffs this year. Right now, 55 percent are saying "no", and 45 percent "yes".

Everyone needs to go and vote "yes".

Some of these Sporting News readers need to get their heads examined. I've never seen such a talented team get so much disrespect before a season. As long as the Rockets avoid serious injuries, they are a playoff lock.

Oh, and yesterday, the poll asked if the Yao Ming would make an immediate impact. 76 percent "no". Stupid! stupid! stupid!

I went and voted for what it is worth.

From what I have seen the average NBA "lay fan" seems to not have any clue about Yao Ming. A perfect example was last night on ESPN they had on their "Focus Group" show which is a show where they take 8 average sports fans and talk about different sports topics. It is an interesting show but the topic of Yao Ming came up and none of them gave Ming much credit. One guy called him the next Manute Bol. They said he was too skinny and would be pushed around by Shaq (Gee, never heard that before! Like anyone else isnt!). I am willing to go out on a limb and say NONE of these people have ever seen him play and it is obvious none of them saw Ming in the World Championships nor saw what current NBA players had said about him. So their opinions are based on very little. Everyone can have opinions but it is the "informed opinions" that mean a lot more.

FYI, they also talked about Hakeem and his retirement and where he ranked in NBA Centers. Some nice comments from the Focus Group here which was refreshing. Hakeen got some nice props. But it was funny, one of the guys there said that Ewing was better and that he had a tougher time than Hakeem because Ewing had a worse cast of teammates. It was then revealed that this guy was a Knicks fan. LOL! Nuff said!

Anyway, back on topic....when it comes to Ming I think the majority of NBA fans and even some hack sports writers know very little about Ming but then PRETEND to KNOW stuff about him. You kinda wish these people would say "I don't know enough about him to form an opinion." So instead of doing that they just generalize without knowing any facts and it does the readers and a viewers a disservice. Bah...enough! ;)

54-46 yes now. If I had the time I'd do my old Bullard ballot stuffing trick, but it's not a Bullard vote so I'll save it for later.

I voted, and now it's 56% "yes." But, shouldn't we be voting the other way? I mean wouldn't it be better if everyone thought that we were going to suck again and we ended up with something like the sixth seed?

Got 56-44 for yes with me. Also said that they were fans.

It does seemas though most people voice their opinion, although they really don't have nothing behind it. But thats ok, we'll catch them off guard. :D :p
