    Ron Artest?

    Seriously? That's your big proof?

I understand the dislike for Kobe, but if we're resulting to the use of Ron Artest as proof that Hakeem was better than Kobe then we're losing our freaking minds.

    1. I'd be pretty surprised if Fisher made the Hall.

    2. Rodman was zero help to Kobe or the Lakers. Wasn't he booted after ten games or so?

    3. The Payton/Malone combo didn't help the Lakers win any rings. Quite a few people think that bringing those two guys in hurt that team overall with the subsequent chemistry issues.

    4. While he still has plenty of career left, which is scary, Pau is far from a lock for the Hall of Fame at this point. Even if he gets there, it'll be on the merits of his current window of success, and folks will say the same thing they said about Kobe when he had Shaq.

Of course Kobe has had help. It's not like Hakeem didn't. Those Hakeem led Rockets teams might not have been as stacked as some of Kobe's Lakers teams, but it's not like Dream was playing with chopped liver out there.

I'm confused as to what the point of all of this is. There's really no way to marginalize Kobe's accomplishments anyway, but I really don't know why anyone would want to.

Kobe has a chance to become the top scorer ever. If he averages 19 points per game over the next 7 years, he'll do it.

I think that's possible. He's still averaging 25 now, and it's reasonable to think he could still get about 13 PPG when he is 38 or 39 yrs old. Of course the catch is that he has to play that long, which is a big question mark.

Well for starters having HOF talent like Shaq on your team doesn't make you more likely to score points. If anything, it took away from his ability to score points for the first few years of his career because he was the secondary scoring option.

How can you seriously consider Gasol a HOF. He is a big man with no 20/10 seasons, has never made NBA first or second team, and is only a 3 time nba all star. The basketball reference thing you pointed to is ridiculous because it has Pau, Vince, and T-Mac ahead of Nash in HOF probability.

Artest? Reallyyyyyyyyyyyy you're going to bring up Ron Artest who was big in the finals but what does him winning only 1 Ship without Artest have to do with anything?

In fact why does people try to downplay the championships that Kobe won by bringing up his teammates? He seems to be the only guy that people do it to.

Sadly Pau Gasol is a HOF, even if his NBA numbers does not jump out at you what he has done in international competition makes him clearly qualified for the HOF. So if it's an NBA Hall of Fame, he's no where close but he's getting in for his international contribution. Might be better to discuss this in terms of Top 50 players instead of HOF credentials.

Kobe is the better scorer, obviously, but Hakeem was much better defensively than Kobe. To say that Bryant is "clearly the better player" is silly.

Hakeem Olajuwon is top ten all-time in points, blocks, and steals. I'm pretty sure he's the only one in all three. He's 11th in total rebounds.

It's really pretty silly to even debate who is a better player between a Center and a shooting guard.

Both were great at the position they play.

You should have said this after the post about Kobe "clearly" being the better player.

Kobe is the better scorer. Hakeem had the greater impact on defense and on the boards. Overall, Dream was the superior player.

No doubt Kobe is a elite scorer but I think a lot of folks are forgetting how many double and triple teams Hakeem saw compared to Kobe. Kobe sees that as well but Kobe had someone that would make you pay for doubling him. Dream had Drexler late in his career and Barkley if you want to use him. Nothing to the degree that Kobe has had.

I will say this though... and Shaud is right... To many people try to undermine what Kobe has done in regards to his rings. The dude earned them. You could say the same thing about Jordan and Duncan. They all had someone.

You're right, both guys are top 2-3 at their position all-time. But Hakeem played the position with the greatest depth of talent. Russell, Chamberlain, Abdul-Jabbar, and Shaq all played the same position as Hakeem. At the shooting guard position, there are no other top 15 players of all time except MJ and Kobe (maybe Jerry West).

I hope Kobe gets a painless career ending injury so that douche doesn't have to pass up The Dream.

and Shaq. I think you need to re-read the previous posts and what I was responding to.

Sorry even though I quoted you it wasn't aimed at you. It was just you were the last to comment on it. I was just saying in general it's tough to debate who is the better player between two guys who play different positions.

I would argue that Kobe may not have really earned two or three of those rings. He benefited from being teammates in 2000 and 2002 with the biggest game changer of all time. I am, of course, talking about Dick Bavetta.
