How much will Chuck Hayes sign for after this season?

Thats not just a hunch... thats pretty much a fact. It seems that every opposing coach in the NBA are finally speaking out about the impact Chuck has game in and game out.

His skillset has improved dramatically enough offensively to increase his value as someone who could start at the PF on some teams.

In a vacuum, with an unchanged CBA, I believe Chuck could get a MLE contract with a team like the Lakers, Knicks, Magic for 3 years pretty easily.

 

If Brad Miller got $5 million per, it would seem only fair to reward the hardest working player and STARTING CENTER with the same or a little more than his back up.

 

Landry only had 6 months to prove himself and a knee injury. You don't think Landry will get more than 3 million this time around?

 

His offensive improvement and free throw shooting ability a damn good improvement. The guy has gone from a joke at the free throw line to 70% and from once missing layup after layup to putting the ball on the floor and reverse layups with his off hand. Add his defensive presence he deserves anywhere from 3-4.5 million. I wouldn't be surprised if he got close to 5 because there aren't enough players willing to do the dirty work.

Knicks won't hire Hayes because having to look at Hayes every day would hurt Amare's self esteem. Chuck be smacking soap out of Amare's hand in the team shower and ordering him to pick it up just to show him who's the boss.

Per 36 min stats can sometimes be misleading because of how often a certain guy plays those amount of minutes but in Chuck's case, I consider them valid.

Those numbers along with elite level defense...uhmmmmm...STRONG!

 

He is still young too... I would love to see him in a 4 / 5 year deal @ 4.5 to 5.5 per... That is fair IMO...

Chuck Hayes: trade bait, keep, or let go?

Chuck Hayes has definitely made much improvement in his game, especially offense, since he came to the Rockets. But now he's at a crossroad in his career this offseason.

1. It's obvious that Hayes is more valuable for a team that actually contends
2. It's obvious that Hayes is not really a center
3. It's obvious that Hayes is going to get a pay-raise
4. It's obvious that at 27, he's going to get a long term contract

Houston is in a bad spot. We're not contending. We have gazillion PFs, but no center. And we're likely looking to shed salary rather than take on salary the next few years. And long term contracts are bad for cap flexibility of a rebuilding team, especially for a role player.

I loved Hayes. Thought he was a diamond in the rough. Thought the Rockets were really smart in locking him up quickly at a cheap price before his value could skyrocket. But now he's 27, in his prime, looking for his big payday... So should we pony up?

 

KEEP!

He is one of the most undervalued players of the league, and if we're lucky it stays that way. We probably won't need to offer him a sizable contract, since Chuck Hayes is useful for us but will probably be a lot less useful on other teams.

 

pay the man. lock chuck up, he's a good investment. people get injured and he's versatile. He's also one of the best defenders in the league.

 

When we end up giving him 4 Million a year, it will be well worth it......

 

The fact of the matter is, the Rockets wouldn't be able to find a trade where they get equal value for how important Chuck Hayes is to this team.

Until this team can get a true center, Chuck is one of the most important players on the team.

Hayes is probably the LAST player on the entire roster that I would look to trade. Not because he is an elite player or anything, although he has proved invaluable to us this year. It is because his value to the Rockets will always be far greater than anything he could ever bring back in a trade. The guy is not only perennially undervalued/underestimated by the rest of the league, he is disrespected by his own fans as well.

As for keep or let go, that's easy. Depends on how much he is offered.
