He is no doubt the key to our run game and our offense. The question is, was last year just fool's gold? Or can he maintain his play in his second year...
sorry for the double post but...something seems amiss on Tate's wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Tate
He should be fine, assuming he doesn't go and do something stupid like purposely gain 10 pounds over the offseason.
I believe he will have continued success if healthy. He's a patient runner with good vision and a burst that allows him to get to the next level. I love how he always seems to find the first down marker and endzone for that matter. Great around the goal line, finally a Texans RB that can punch it in consistently.
as long as he doesn't drop 18 pounds to gain more agility. And how about running it more, not just with foster but with the other rbs.
Arian Foster has that slight shiftiness that makes him seem to always elude direct hits. He almost never gets stood up and seems to be able to quarter away at the last second to fall forward while being tackled. That allows him to gain a couple of extra yards as he's being tackled, and it should tend to keep him from getting hurt. The last player I can remember that was as good at that skill was Emmitt Smith, and he has some important record that requires many years of good rushing statistics.
IF Arian falls off this year, then all I'm saying is to hell with this one-year-wonder ZBS BS, or the coaches who fail to implement it right, or whatever the problem. Too many fricking one year wonders if Arian has a subpar year next year. Get me a scheme where the guy gets 800-1200 consistently every year rather than a breakout flashy year and then disappears. Of course, Arian will prolly drop 1800 on us next year and this discussion will be moot.
Not that Tate will take his job but I think Foster's number will take a bit of a hit because Ben will run well. I like Tate and if he can provide a potent 1-2 combo in the backfield...LOOK OUT.
I need an in-between response. I think we've likely seen his best year....but I don't think he's going to be ineffective, either.
If not for slatons injuries, I think he would still be a usable running back As for Foster, I think he'll be fine, he is not like Slaton where if his speed is gone so is his game.
Why would you say that? He was pretty consistent throughout this season, and typically year 2 is the monster year for a RB.
I agree with Max. We have likely seen Arian Foster's best statistical season. Doesn't mean he won't put up 1600-1800 yards from scrimmage for another 4-5 years, but the odds are against him getting another rushing title, or 2200+ yard season.
RB position is full of one-year wonders. Not a lot of guys in history match the kind of season Foster just had. I don't think he's a Slaton, though. I sure hope I'm wrong though...I hope he's capable of being among the top 3 backs in the league for a few years. It just usually doesn't work out that way.
Please don't put Arians name in the same sentence with Arian b/c Arian actually looks for the 1 cut to get good yards, and Arian also has very good vision unlike Slaton.
