What percentage of the Rockets value can be attributed to Yao? Anyone have a guess?

A big reason we're valued so high is because we just worked a contract to get our own Television network along with the Astros. I believe they'll be switching to the new TV network in 2012 or 2013 at the latest. This puts us in the same league as the Knicks with their MSG network, Yankees with YES, etc. This is a big deal for both the Astros and Rockets. This will allow them to spend a few extra bucks. Hopefully the Astros begin to change things around with their youth by then and their new owner will be able to go out and spend on a few big free agents during that time period to make them relevant again. As for the Rockets, we have plenty of youth, we just need to land an All-Star somehow. Hopefully in 2012 we can try to attract a pair of All-Stars in the next big free agent summer by offering them Max Deals (Deron Williams - from Texas and a big guy to go along with him. Dwight Howard - wants to pair with an All-Star guard. This would be a dream come true :) ) You never know... by then the Knicks will have Amare and Melo maxed out and wont have room to get these guys. Miami is locked up with their big 3. Lakers will be really old by then and still owe big $ to Kobe and Gasol. We'll see....

Not surprising. Puts o rest all of that glamour talk and endorsements bull and money talk others give other franchises credit for and not ours. I mean Tmac and Yao have made hand over fist money in endorsements alone in Houston. They are two of the most recognizable player in the league over Amare Stoudemire of the Knicks. Over Kobe Bryant at one point. Over Dwight Howard. Houston pays its players who play here. Nobody can compete really money wise, endorsement wise, good team wise, owner wise, state tax wise, cost of living wise. Its not even close. You can make more money if you play here as much as any other place or more so.

    humidity sucks.

But as Clyde says, you don't need to live in Houston in the off season.
