Their tolerance, like any other person, grows with time. One of my good friends in college was in an Asian fraternity, and he downed about 29 shots on his birthday night yet he didn't throw up once. This same fraternity would normally haze its pledges by having them drink a third of a bottle without any chasers, and those kids could eventually do it without getting sick.
Calm down... no one's taking it personally. There's PC and then there's the truth. Sometimes, they're not the same and sometime they are. From your posts, you seem to think they are.
About 4 years ago, a Singaporean-American I knew had 3 shots, 1 beer, and a glass of wine over the course of an hour. It couldn't have been more. He was 6 feet w/ a normal build but blacked out and couldn't even remember leaving his hotel room. The next night, 2 shots and he was asking all the ladies if he was cute like Jackie Chan and giggling deliriously. Of course I was doing crazier ****, but I had enough alcohol in me to justify it.
I'm Vietnamese, small guy 5'7", and will drink anything you put in front of me. No Asian flush, average tolerance for a 20-something (about 7-9 drinks in a hard night out probably). I think everyone handles their booze differently and it's just a lot easier to spot an Asian that can't handle their liquor so we kind of get that label as lightweights.
OP, how do you know that we all come from Africa? Do you base this on anthropology studies? Have you ever wondered if those guys have not actually excavated all of the other continents? So they just happen to find the oldest bones the know due to carbon-dating, then they assume all humans come from Africa? That's just bull**** to me. I cannot drink and I don't need to try to prove otherwise. My low tolerance means I'm made to live longer and not cut my life short from all the booze. :grin:
im asian and drink 20 shots almost every weekend without getting red. The same thing with most of my my asian friends too...
I find that Asians, even Americanized ones, don't really like to drink much. They are more into party drugs, especially the women
Skimming through this thread, I see some pissed off asian people. So, what's everyone's opinion on black people?
It's more specifically that alot of Asians lack acetaldehyde dehydrogenase which is the enzyme responsible for the metabolism of alcohol. The main problem for the Asians who lack this enzyme and keep drinking alcohol is that it puts them at much greater risk for throat cancers later in life.
Interesting, I've been dry coughing a after the holidays. Is there a reason why alcohol specifically targets the throat? Contact?
