This may completely destroy any credibility that I have as a member and feel free to verbally lash, but...

I had been casually following this horrific case when I went to see the movie "Red Dragon". Some things jumped out at me that I would like to share for the THIRD time.

The thing that first peaked my attention was the note was common to both the screen killer and the MD killer "I am God".

The 'Red Dragon' is the Pagon symbol that was embraced in the movie, the 'Grim Reaper' was on the tarot card that was found by police.

Although less important, both drove vans, and there was a rifle presence in the movie.

The lady that was killed today was an FBI anaylst... remember Clairesse?

The movie was filmed in Baltimore, the house where the movie killer resided was in Cockseyville MD, approx. 61 miles from the site of the first murder in Rockville MD.

This movie opened nationwide on October 4th, sneak previews were on October 2nd the day of the first killing.

I know this movie has been discussed and this ongoing case, but am I crazy? Or is this eerily similar.

I think you're asking a good question, and I hope some detectives are asking similar ones as they track this freak down. But there are a couple of points I think are complete stretches. One, quoted above, doesn't make sense to me. Am I missing the significance of 61 miles? That's a long way, but I guess you're saying that it could be *anywhere*, so 61 miles is pretty close.

And as for the FBI agent, I assume that was random bad luck on her part. If not, the hair is raising on the back of my neck. That this guy could evade such a huge manhunt and then pick off an FBI agent on purpose in front of a Home Depot? Yikes, I hope that ain't true.

I know it's a stretch (understatement), but since sneak previews of movies are by usually seen by invitation only, what would it hurt to try to find out where those screenings were and who was invited.

I would think, at the very least, that it would have been considered. If not, maybe you are in the wrong line of work.:)

by the way, how is your deal coming along?

Stalled. When HBO signed on to do comedies for ABC, my project got put on the back burner. Every comedy writer in Hollywood is jocking these guys!

    Thanks for asking, very thoughtful.

I know this was mentioned before in another thread, but I think about this sniper guy, and I instantly think of Grand Theft Auto 3. Those who have the game know how easy it is to go on a killing spree (even with a sniper rifle).

First, the police get involved and chase you.
    Then, the helicopters come.
Then, it's the FBI tracking you and chasing you.
Finally, the army is brought in to stop you.

I know it follows simple logic (a higher branch of law enforcement getting involved the more dangerous the situation becomes.. duh), but the sniper attack follows the same premise and consequences:

    First, the police got involved.
    Next, the FBI stepped in.
Now, we're hearing that the Pentagon might get involved (with troops?)

It's sort of like a real life Grand Theft Auto 3, and it frankly scares me. I'm not saying Grand Theft Auto 3 is to blame (far from it), but the whole situation struck me as similar. Kind of WWII and that Battlefield 1942 game. It's like the game was meant to be similar to the war! Wow! :D

U know what is most interesting to me.
The News Media covering it is acting almost
exactly like the Media in the Movie.

?belittling the guy etc. . . either the movie
    is well researched
or the journalist are just reactionary

I think it's just a coincidence to the movie. The way they kill is extremely different not only in how they kill but in that the Red Dragon chose victims while this guy is chosing a target area and then picks off whoever walks into it. Their motives seem a lot different also. A lot of the traditional serial killers (Bundy, Gacey, Dahmer, and even Red Dragon) are fulfilling sexual fantasies in their crimes and that is not present here at all.

I don't exactly know if that's true because they have not pointed out specifically where shots came from, therefore physical evidence (e.g. body fluids) may have gone undiscovered.

Funny you should mention this possible movie link AB. I watched Enemy at the Gates on Showtime last month. For anyone who hasn't seen this movie, it's about 2 snipers (German & Russian) trying to kill each other during WWII.

When these killings started in MD./VA. that movie was the first thing that I thought of. Some nut may have seen this movie and is trying to live it.

Real-life events may prompt Fox to hold sniper movie

    By ANTHONY BREZNICAN
    Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Real-life sniper attacks have prompted 20th Century Fox to consider postponing release of the thriller Phone Booth, about a man who answers a public telephone and finds himself pinned down by a faraway shooter.

The film, starring Colin Farrell as the trapped victim and Kiefer Sutherland as the shooter, is set to debut nationwide Nov. 15.

The plot of the film bears some similarities to the sniper attacks on the East Coast that have killed seven people and wounded two in the Washington area.

In the real cases, no one is known to have seen the triggerman carry out any of the attacks, although some witnesses reported seeing a white van flee some of the shooting scenes. In the film, the shooter singles out individuals he believes deserve punishment.

Fox spokeswoman Flo Grace said studio executives are examining Phone Booth to determine if it would be appropriate to release it. She could not say when the decision would be made.

"Everyone wants to know: Are we moving the film? Are we changing the marketing plan? ... All I can say is we're evaluating the situation," she said.

Screenwriter Larry Cohen, who wrote Phone Booth three years ago, said he would not mind if the studio delayed release of the film.

"I'd hate to inflict pain on any of the family and friends of the victims and bring the pain back to them," he said. "A movie is meaningless compared to the reality of what's going on."

When the shootings began last week, Cohen -- best known for the writing and directing monster features like The Stuff and Return to Salem's Lot -- said he knew the release of Phone Booth would be in jeopardy.

"I'm very happy the picture didn't come out beforehand," he said. "It would have been horrible to think, 'Oh my God, did I put the idea in someone's head?'"

Cohen's 1976 film God Told Me To had a similar sniper theme -- it was about a series of random shooting murders by a madman who thinks God talks to him.

At the site of Monday's shooting that critically wounded a 13-year-old boy outside his school in Bowie, Md., police found a tarot death card with the taunting words, "Dear policeman, I am God" near a bullet shell.

"Maybe it's better to stick with monster babies and dragons flying down from the Chrysler Building, because you know that some diseased mind can't make those things really happen," Cohen said, referring to his films It's Alive! and Q.

Sometimes movies that explore current events coincide with real-life headlines more closely than filmmakers expect.

Perhaps the most uncanny timing in film history came in 1979 when the nuclear-meltdown thriller The China Syndrome opened in theaters 12 days before the nation's worst commercial nuclear accident, at Three Mile Island near Harrisburg, Pa.

I have an idea to help capture this person. Why don't they use spy planes that hover or fly over the area. When there is a shooting, they can look at the aerial things, and see where the shooter was hiding and stuff.
    just my suggestion.

Red Dragon was a book released by Thomas Harris a loooong time ago. So, I doubt the movie would spur someone on. The book was better anyways.
Has anyone seen that MSNBC report about how videogames might be connected to the sniper?? That ol GOD mode in videogames sure links everything. I think the media has gone nuts.
I'm not sure how someone can hone their snipering skills with Halo, Counterstrike, or Battlefield 1942 and then take out 10 people in populated areas. If it does then the military is wasting their money training people, they should just buy all their boys first person shooters.
some wild theories out there though

I just hope the sniper doesn't get ahold of the redeemer used in Unreal Tournament.

a top flight sniper expert. . . .she hit 4 out of 4 targets from a 100 yards

    So it may help some

The media is full of speculative BS when they think video games can "train" a serial killer who has eluded authorities to this very moment.

    God mode my ass...

I could not agree more. I hate that the media blames violence on select things and never makes one responsible for his or her own actions. Unbelievable.
