To me, Kanye's best album will always be The College Dropout. Most rappers who make it big off their debut album never put out anything nearly as heart-felt and raw after it, I just liked the feeling throughout that album, a sense of a struggle to survive, a sense of keeping family close, and finally on the final track, a celebration, that weaves in a story of Kanye's own path to stardom. Now that was an album. Pitchfork talked **** and hailed "Late Registration" as a masterpiece but **** that album. Then he went autotune and now I don't even care.
Kanye rapping about his 'struggle to survive' is about as legitimate as me rapping about my ***** buddy relationship with Scarlett Johanson.
Well no ****. He's rapping about things like being a token black employee at the Gap and ****, its about the struggle, man.
1st question: Dropout: This is an incredibly hard question when it comes to the dropout. I'd say Spaceship but Ye' only has verse, I'm going with a tie between "Through the Wire" and "Last Call". Late Registration: I have to say "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" with "Hey Mama" as a close second. Graduation: All the songs on this album are amazing but I'm choosing "Homecoming" I love metaphorical songs and he really shows the passion he has for Chicago. 808: Didn't like 808 but I thought "Welcome to Heartbreak" was a masterpiece. MBDTF: I think this one of the best albums I've ever purchased, in fact i purchased two copies, one for the house and one for the car. It's a tie between "Devil in a New Dress" and "Dark Fantasy". 2nd question: 1. Through the Wire 2. Homecoming 3. Diamonds 4. Last Call 5. Dark Fantasy 6. All Falls Down 7. Spaceship 8. Jesus Walks 9. Devil in a New Dress 10. Can't Tell Me Nothing This was really hard ^ 3rd question: 1. Dropout 2. MBDTF .. .. 3. Graduation .. .. .. 4. Late Registration .. .. .. .. .. .. 5. 808 4th question: Too many to chose from: Be, Black Album, Eardrums, Hip Hop is Dead, Dropout, Get Lifted.
The intro to Be is orgasmic. One of my favorite beats of all time...ALL TIME! <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6FkVmZt2tg0" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
He's a good rapper. At least he doesn't try too hard like someone else.... <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/d9Jkl-Io4fY" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe> geez louise that is so lame
CD: 1. Never Let Me Down 2. Spaceship 3. Through the Wire Late Registration 1. Diamonds (Remix) 2. Touch the Sky (Doesn't hurt that it was Lupe's first non-mixtape introduction to the world) 3. Drive Slow Graduation 1. Homecoming (Easy choice, but I like the original "Home" without the Coldplay dude even more) 2. Can't Tell Me Nothing No clear favorite beyond these I can only give an honest opinion on those 3 as I just haven't had time to hear the others out and give them an honest opinion. From what I heard of 808, I wasn't a big fan, but MBDTF sounds good from random listens on Pandora. I will say that I was OBSESSED with CD-era Kanye. His next albums are probably just as good (Okay, not quite), but CD was ridiculous and so unlike anything else at the time. I literally listened to it for months straight every single time I got in my car. To this day, I could probably recite any line from the album. Cliche to cite this line, but "Mayonnaise colored benz, I push miracle whips." He had some great mixtape stuff around this time...I think Freshman Adjustment was the name? The overall quality on the mixtapes is obviously lesser (Mixtapes are often used to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks), but some real gems that never made it on to albums...love the '03 till infinity that he did. He also had some great guest spots around this time...This way by the Dilated Peoples, Down and Out by Cam'Ron (Probably one of my top 5 favorite beats ever), Food by Common (look for the version from the Chappelle Show), Be by Common (He's actually not even on the track, but a truly great song that is representative of the stuff he was producing at the time, just wish it was longer). Listen to I used to love her by Common and then listen to Home by Kanye...true genius. People talk about the decline of rap in the 2000's, but I don't think that can be said for 2003-2005 at all...probably my favorite era.
I'd have to go through them all to rank 1 through 10, but I think "Gone" from Late Registration is my favorite. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oc65hFCls8E" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
I thought i was the only one!!!!!!, that intro is easily the best intro ever made, everytime i listen to it i get chill bumps, from the beat to the powerful lyrics
It's one of my favorite intros as well. Here's another one of my favorite intro beats (sounds better on CD, rather than YouTube): <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MaCDA8YNqNg" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
This sounds familiar... <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/4OuRajFzMYI" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
