I bet no ones thought of this. With all this trade chatter going on about getting Melo, none of us have thought about the mental affect it would have on a team that has been reported to have no untouchables. Especially for players like Brooks and Martin, who for a while thought the fans and the organization were behind them for the long haul. Only later to find their names pop up in trade rumors for so-so stars . Think about how Jeffries feels everytime he was shot down for a buyout. Think about how Battier feels when the calls keep coming in with inquiries about his availability. Maybe this is part of the reason why this team is in the condition that it's in now. You all know that the trade season can be mentally exhausting. Even for us fans.
Joke? I can't even watch Rockets basketball anymore, with no clue what the future holds I'm just not very interested. I am more concerned with what Morey has planned than the on-court product. It sucks.
I know it's affecting Brooks. I haven't seen a Rocket show such piss poor body language and frustration in a while.
'We' said this last year too didnt we? So for ever year we struggle, are we gonna blame it on the trade deadline/trade talk? Nope, I dont buy into it.
this is a grown man's game and unless you are a super-star, you have to know you are not untouchable. Trade talks regarding our players has been relatively tame compared to the Melo talks. Stop trying to come up with reasons that we suck. Sometimes you just need to accept that we suck and look for ways to improve, instead of trying to rationalize why we suck.
Boy I sure hope not....they might start losing or something. This team (as currently constructed) is not going anywhere but late lottery, which in NBA terms means "HELL".
We all know that this team should be better than it is. At least record-wise. You have to admit, other than injuries, thoughts of being traded at any moment has to have some what of a negative affect on a players mental game.
it should affect them, the way Brooks&Hill been playing, hell they need to be on the first train smoking
I think it's effective them to a point but the team has naturally built flaws that, trade deadline or no trade deadline, would still be causing quite a bit of these loses.
If you love and are passionate about basketball, then the court should be where you are able to escape reality. If anything, they should be more motivated on the court when going through something. Any basketball player here knows... As long as they've played: Highschool, college, you don't worry about being traded or getting a huge contract... You just play basketball. Now all of a sudden, because they're in the NBA their contracts and trade rumors affect their play? Everybody on the Rockets can play, and should know that regardless of what happens with the Rockets, they're going to get a contract from SOMEBODY... So just play basketball. They're getting paid millions to do so w/ benefits.
Couldn't agree more. Come on Morey get off the pot and make a move, but dont say because of trade talks the team is suffering. WE HAVE NO SIZE DOWN LOW. That's why we suck. Our team is like Golden State, sometimes they can outshoot people to victory but we couldn't stop U of H if we wanted to. Come on DM.
Should they though? How much better should they be? How many wins do you think they should have? They were 24-19(finished 42-40 right?) at this time last year. What are they now? 20-25? They're in the neighborhood of where they probably should be. Just an average team of role players. 2009 opening night roster: Brooks(Still here) Ariza(replaced with Lee) Battier(Still here) Scola(Still here) Hayes(Still here) Bench: Lowry(Still here) Landry(replaced with Hill) Andersen(replaced with Miller) Budinger(Still here) Mensah-Bonsu('replaced' by Smith) Cook('replaced' by Patterson) McGrady(replaced with Martin)(Rockets were 12-11 or 11-12 last season after acquiring him; I forget which) Ming(Still here; injured again) Taylor(replaced with Williams) Again, yes, they probably should be better. However, I dont think they're out of their neighborhood of where they should be. (Hope that all made sense) BTW, sure enough, 'Inevitable trade causing team issues?' You're going to use this excuse/reason again this year? Fine, sure, I guess?
