Nash would be an automatic bait for getting another star players.... Every NBA star or superstar knows that Nash would increase their game (and media apreciation and future salary) noticeably...it's not the same coming to a Rockets with Nash, to coming to the current Rockets.... Nash, OTOH, is more attractive fto stars or superstars, than ballhogs like Melo...cause they know that sharing the game with Melo will hurt their stats, the opposite with Nash...the only time superstars are willing to lower their stats and status, is when they lack a ring, and want it so badly that they'll sacrifize thier stats for it.. like in Miami, but that's the minority on the cases...
It really isn't as easy as it seems; we'll have to luck out on how good the draft class actually is and also we have to luck out on getting a high pick. Lots of gambling involved for this scenario to succeed. If we do gamble and its not successful then that puts us in the same quandary as teams like sacramento and minnesota.
And don't forget, they should have had Blake Griffin, too.... were it not for the fickleness of ping-pong balls.
I prefer he choose to do something over nothing. If it is a bad move don't do it. If it positive direction? I don't care which way it mix and matches either way as long as it goes in a good direction that would benefit us somehow. If its more bad moves like Terrence Williams so far? I am about to get medieval on Morey if he doesn't start to step up. I realize there is time with the deadline looming far away and that's when other teams deal. He needs to get something. We cannot stand pat. There is nothing good with standing pat in our current situation. If he does? He better have some real good plan in the offseason. Otherwise after this offseason is over? Some fans are bound to get restless with him by then. I guarantee it if nothing is done by then. Guarantee it.
What if Patty Patterson just blows up? He has a whole bunch of potential to do so and to be completely honest he is the only rocket i can see doing so. Budinger will grow to be a great role player in in the NBA and the same with Hill and Courtney Lee. Although courtney showed some great strides during his rookie year with the magic finding himself starting at the 2 spot for quite some time during the playoffs and if the magic had of became NBA champs maybe courtney lee would be one of the top tier players in the league. Alot of should ofs, could ofs and would ofs can be said for the rockets, what if T-mac stayed healthy? Could he of found himself being MVP like material? Or if Yao wasn't injury prone maybe we would be bangin with the big boys (spurs, mavs, lakers, magic, boston etc) * www.nba.com/reportcard/midseason/2011/rockets/ check out our report card, dismal at the least. How do we fix all the issues within our team from head to toe?
He's talked about looking long-term and wants a superstar both which i doubt will happen. Houston does not have the team where superstars want to play for. Yao is an international icon not a national icon big difference.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4njdc45 This is a bit more realistic Carmelo to the Rockets trade idea... In it, the Rockets get Anthony and Nene from the Nuggets. They would also acquire McGee from the Wizards. In one swoop the Rockets would take care of the center position and would rent Melo out for the remainder of the season. The Nuggets acquire Jordan Hill, Aaron Brooks, Jared Jeffries, and Yao's contract. They would receive young talent, expiring contracts, and I am sure the Rockets would include some draft picks. The Wizards would get Chase Buddinger and #### Smith. Two young players with a lot of upside. I'm not exactly sure how fond the Wizards are of McGee but he's young, can block shots, and just as important, he's 7'0.
Totally agree. As I've said all along, we need to rebuild. Kevin Martin is probably the only star on our team worth keeping. Everyone else can be traded. Ray Allen > Kevin Martin Rashard Lewis > Louis Scola And they got the 2nd pick with that lineup. We could do the same. Just trade away every except Martin and Scola and lets go after Kyle Irving, etc. Lowry Martin Williams Scola Patterson that would be a GREAT lineup.
You have somehow managed a 3 team trade in which all 3 teams are projected to get worse. The trade with the Wizards seems pointless.
or Scola, Brooks, Battier, Yaos contract, Patterson, Courtney Lee, Budinger, Hill, Lowry, Hayes. One of these guys or a good mix?
Very true. Nene could be our Gasol. Even without a superstar, adding a 15ppg. scoring center would definitely improve our chances of a playoff run.
I doubt the Rockets would get worse but yeah, only reason I include the Wizards is because of McGee. Extremley young center that can block. Plus it's more Morey's cup of tea, low risk high reward.
...and this is why people need to not just look at the successful teams, but also the unsuccessful teams. When Seattle/OKC was blowing up their Ray Allen/Rashard Lewis teams and shooting for lottery gold, Sacramento was also getting rid of Bibby, Artest, Miller, etc. OKC walked into a perfect storm with a franchise player coming first and then allowing them to immediately build around said player. On the other hand, you could argue the Kings drafted just as well with similar draft picks but because the good players available them don't "fit", this is still a cellar dweller team despite lots of young talent. Portland did the same thing with the Jailblazers and also drafted fairly well(Oden plays like a #1 pick...when he plays) but I don't think anyone is giving them a shot to be a title contender with their current roster - let alone a dynasty. The lotto is an odds game and the odds are stacked against teams trying to build a complete team that way. OKC, is very lucky to have had the good fortune they did. San Antonio is the only other team I can think of who plucked multiple franchise type guys out of a draft in the window of a few years and that was largely because they were one of only a handful of teams aggressively scouting international talent at the time.
we already have a core to build around and then some. our core lowry martin budinger patterson lee williams and then some brooks hill smith we need to build around these guys blow up the rest. now by building around i dont mean they have to start. i just mean we have to fill in the gaps: for example) lowry/ _____ martin/lee _____/budinger _____/patterson _____/________ brooks and hill show potential, and we should trade them before everyone realizes that the level of basketball that they are playing right now, is their peak. Now i can live with bringing back landry, as long as we have 2 7 footers in the center clogging up the paint. Now as far as our assets go Young Players: Brooks, Smith, Hill Role Players: (for championship teams) Scola,Hayes,Miller Expirings: Battier, Jeffries + picks i really dont think that houston needs a superstar to win a championship, we are known for playing with heart, being underdogs, why not keep it that way, and i know that with this heart and talent, with the right trades, we can be the just like the 04 pistons. Am i the only one that thinks that Houston can be a championship team with martin as our highest scorer? With the right trades of course/
