The bet is if Miami plays Texas, the loser has to go a month without posting here.

Also, I'll take you up on a bet of Texas winning the NC (which this will be a separate from Texas playing Miami but does not apply if it is Miami and Texas being in the NC), but that will be some sig bet.

Oh, and you didn't read the last post too well, I see. I said that Mark (or is it Mike?) Stoops would be more than glad ...didn't say he was going to or even had to. That option is just there if they want it, but I doubt they will use it because Miami is not afraid of anyone, especially a team that can't win a big game.

    ____________________________________________________

I am going to try really hard to have this as my last post in this thread. But I want to say this before I exit.

    Cat,

I have always considered you a friend here. I stood up for you several months back because you always impressed me with your honesty and being fair in the sims & I felt you were a good poster. However, I noticed that you just cannot be objective about anything having to do with a team you like. People call you on this and you go crazy. This thread is a perfect example. You have an answer for everything. It is really unbelievable and scary to go back and read your responses to questions in which the answer should be "you're right...Simms has not responded well in pressure type games." Yet, you keep coming up with stuff that makes one guffaw in disbelief.

Believe it or not, mduke and I got into a nasty tit Saturday night over Nate Hybl and it took AstroRocket to calm us down. I apologized to him and he apologized to me, but it is silly for a damn football game to cause 2 posters that like each other to form some kind of hatred against each other. This thread is starting to go the same way. Granted, I have held up in saying some things mainly out of respect, but it has been hard. However, I want to keep your friendship because I respect you whether you believe that or not. I just think it is very sad that it is has deteriorated to this. I know you are a proud individual, but you going have to relax and not let things as trivial as a goddang college football game work you into a lather. I know that I am a good one to talk, but I have tried really hard myself the last couple of years to do better. Yes, I had some breakdowns Saturday night, and I apologize to not only duke but mfclark and anyone else for that. However, it really bothers me to see me get into it with someone that I consider a friend and look forward to meeting at that last home game.

Maybe you will read this or maybe you won't, but I wish that you would try to be a little more objective. I know that you probably think you are being objective, but as a friend, I can tell you that you are not in my opinion.

Anyway, this IS my last post in this thread.

No, the problem is your definition of objectivity comes from statistics, to which I don't put much merit. My definition of objectivity comes from what I view as earned and from what I see, not from some number.

Listen, manny. Part of what I say is tongue in cheek, because of the absurdity of the posters here. Hell, it almost brings me to tears to hear what's being said about him, so I could hardly imagine what it's like for the program. Here is my beef.

    Let's see what happened.

    -- A terrible offense scored 35 points
-- A below average running back ran for 248 yards
-- Our special teams gave up a kickoff return for 80 yards directly before the half
-- Our undisciplined defense jumped offsides on a 4th down play
-- Our terrible offensive playcalling never had a primary receiver running past 10 yards
    -- Several receivers dropped balls
-- We couldn't establish the run
-- Two of the interceptions were completely bad luck

These are just a few of the many, many problems that Texas had in this game, but they seem to be being completely ignored in this apparent need to bash Chris Simms. Chris didn't play his best game, but he did play decent. This seemingly fascination of blaming him for the loss is one of the most ridiculous things that I've ever seen.

    ummm...no.

if chris simms won just ONE national championship, he'd be revered as a deity in Texas. everyone was excited about this guy coming to texas...he simply hasn't lived up to his hype, though i think he's a good QB. He's just not a GREAT QB...I was excited about him starting the season last year. I was wrong.

will he be a great pro QB?? perhaps...i'm not sure. but as i heard it said by a commentator this weekend, "whatever 'it' is, Chris Simms doesn't have 'it'." The "it" that joe montana had...the "it" that major applewhite had...call it leadership...call it luck. he simply doesn't have "it."

oh for the love of god can we end this madness.

UT lost, OU won. OU outplayed and was outcoached UT.

Sure that was a painful conclusion to draw, but you can only take so much debating a topic before it loses meaning.

Lets look forward to the rest of the year.

Reflect on the ENTIRE season come January.

You cannot have watched much UT football this year if you truly believe that statement. I will bet you Chris himself would not agree with that assessment.

I don't even think you're arguing the Simms thing at this point because you believe it, but rather because you're completely obstinate and cannot accept the idea of losing an argument. It is beyond the bounds of credibility to insist Chris hasn't played poorly against our best opponents.

That's actually not entirely true. There is a percentage of the fan base that hates his guts for stupid reasons-- a small percentage that couldn't be won over even by an unbeaten season. I've watched games with a couple of them-- it's absolutely pathetic.

Chris Simms, let's face it, is another Ron Powlus. He's not as accomplished a college quarterback as Giff Neilsen and his million dollar arm doesn't make up for the fact that he has difficulty reading defenses. As someone pointed out earlier, Simms seems unusually fragile out there- an asthma attack from the hot dog vendor in the upper deck seems to knock him down. He has never demonstrated any of the intangiblles that make for a great quarterback. Maybe Simms didn't lose the game against Oklahoma, but there is nothing to suggest he will ever lead the Longhorns for a win over a great team in a meaningful game.

Well, I've seen every game, either live or by tape, so I have seen it, and I do truly believe it. If I "can't accept the idea of losing", explain why I seem to be one of the few that seems to be giving credit to OU for playing a great game and not finding all the flaws with Texas like everyone else? They played a great game, they outplayed us, and I was dead wrong in saying we'd win, especially by 20. What more do I need to say?

I just don't think Chris played a bad game. I'm sorry if that's an unheard of concept to you, and to counter your last statement, I didn't realize this thread was about last season. Even if it is, all the big games prove is that our system fails against top notch opponents that lock onto it. Chris is just doing what the system dictates. Yes, Major seemed to do "fine" with the system, but it is because he had the extremely rare intelligence to improvise at the line and audible out of bad plays, something most NFL quarterbacks aren't good at. Just because Chris isn't good at improvising and audibling out of bad of bad plays doesn't make him a bad quarterback.

Cat-usually Heisman candidates are asked to step up and shine in big games. Also, they usually have 2-3 "highlight" plays that increase their hype.

Name me specific incidences of these from this year, against team's that are worth a damn, which excludes OSU, Tulane, UH, UNT, and UNC, which leaves us with only OU. I didn't see one play, other than that play action bomb to Roy that justifies any Heisman hype. His Heisman stock has plummeted as fast as Grossman's.

All-world QBs are supposed to be able to perform well, in spite of bad playcalling. Most top-tier QBs can make bad playcalling, look much better than it actually is. Greg Davis has nothing to do with failing to look for wide open WRs, or misfiring 4 yard out passes. Unless that is what the UT scheme calls for...

Said offense is better than ours in yards and points per game. Said running back is better than ours in yards and yards per carry (#1 in YPC, in fact).

Yep, Simms is not a bad QB. He's just not a great QB. He has all the physical talent at least throwing wise, but lacks the intangibles. Cough...Ryan Leaf...

Dude. I said you couldn't accept losing an argument. Read the whole sentence all the way through.

I have made it crystal ****ing clear that I am talking about Chris Simms against Top Ten opponents. I have stated that repeatedly in this thread, so I am at a loss to understand why you'd be surprised.

And if you will for just a moment stop lumping all of the posters who disagree with your lunacy together, you will see that I have already said in this thread that I think Simms is a good quarterback-- not a bad one. He just plays like handmade **** against Top Ten opponents. That is an irrefutable fact and the fact that we have a terrible offensive coordinator doesn't acquit Chris of his responsibilities to throw good passes to open receivers.

As for Chris only throwing one or two bad passes this year, that is absurd beyond reason. When he overthrows or underthrows open receivers, that's a bad pass. He's done that on a dozen occasions this year; ergo, your statement that he's only thrown one or two bad passes is stupid.

    OK then, GO.

Ryan Leaf was one of the greatest busts in sports history, and part of what made him such a big bust was that he was a complete jackass who was hated by his teammates and in the lockerroom. Please don't compare him with Simms.

Also, kidrock, I was at the game (and saw the field a lot better than those watching TV), and there were VERY few wide open receivers in that game, except for ones that broke open after the ball had been thrown. (see Jeffery) Not sure what you're talking about with misfiring on a four yard pass, but I'll let that go right now.

Also, major, that offense got to pad its stats against UTEP and Tulsa, two of the worst programs in D1 college football. Texas didn't play great teams either, but no one comparable to UTEP and Tulsa on the scale of suckness. ;)

Also, kidrock, Heisman's are decided on overall play, not two or three highlights. All the highlights end up being are media hype to preview the award.

Well, I thought I was done, but the irrational hatred in this thread has led me back to it. I would naturally assume that there would be a couple of voices of reason in the crowd, but apparently there aren't.

Also, considering my argument would be that Texas would beat OU, I thought that I wouldn't have to quote the entire phrase. My mistake. And I wasn't addressing you alone with that statement, but to pretty much everyone in this thread. Don't take everything I'm saying as if I'm meaning it directly at you... I should have emphasized that more clearly.

Also, please don't call it an irrefutable fact. It's an irrefutable statistical fact, but in truth he's earned 6 TD's and 9 INT's in those games. Furthermore, when I say "bad pass", I mean bad as in potentially a turnover. Every quarterback, even Brett Favre, is going to underthrow a ball here and there... I didn't mean it in that literal of a sense.

Cat, you know damn well I'm a voice of reason and I don't hate Simms.
