Hell yea I would do it... Get Martin's salary off the books for an expiring contract who just happens to be a superstar. Simple as that. Courtney Lee is a capable starting SG. Then we have the opportunity to convince him to sign an extension and attract a FA such as Perkins.
No. What the hell do we need a one-year rental of ANYONE for? We're not winning a title this year. Now, I'm all for convincing him to sign an extension and then making a move, but the evidence seems pretty strong the dude wants to head to New York, so I don't buy this 'get him first, then convince him in the next 3 months' crap.
His point is you don't get players for situations only. You sign them for the whole game. I guess its a matter of whether you want a guy whose great for 97% of the game over the guy who performs exceptionally well 3% of the game but average 97% of the game. It seems preposterous but if we're only talking about offense I'd take KM over any other wing besides Lebron and maybe Durant. If you consider defense or the overall level of play of course its a different matter entirely.
I don't think we should compare the and see if the team would be better with one or the other. K-Mart is the perfect #2 option and would fully thrive next to Melo. why don't we do a Melo/Brooks poll? As much as I love him, Martin is a valuable player alongside Melo more than Brooks is. That being said, Brooks would be a brilliant sixth man. It's a tough choice.
Martin is one of the best iso players in the league, only Dirk is a better scorer in iso situations than Martin. Soooo, no we don't really need that player we need a center.
If you rent Melo, you have to make it at least a 2 for one deal, some Yao + Jeffries need to go, at least......and maybe you give up Budinger too...along with picks. Then you pick up Sean Williams from the D-league as a potential center... DD
