Memento and Insomnia had two pivotal female roles. If you were basing it on just the Batman flicks, I could see your point.
Michael Bay couldn't even make computer generated giant robot fight scenes make sense. I think he's a bad example considering some of the biggest complaints about Transformers 1 & 2 was that the action scenes were very difficult to follow. Now, I admit I am a Christopher Nolan fanboy to some degree, but I think if you look at the action scenes from Batman Begins, to Dark Knight, to Inception you see a CONSIDERABLE improvement on action and fight scene staging and filming. I thought the fight and action scenes in Inception were excellent, and my biggest complaint about both the previous Batman movies was the fight scenes were too shaky and too difficult to follow.
I'm talking about Batman, Inception, The Following and The Prestige. Insomnia was a remake of a 1997 Norwegian film and the Hilary Swank role was only transposed. So it doesn't count. That leaves Memento which I attribute to Carrie-Anne Moss being a really great and underrated actress. Proof is in the pudding. Nolan sucks with female actresses and roles.
Off the top of my head and without googling here are better directors than Nolan at diercting action sequences. Quentin Tarantino uber hack Robert Rodriguez Kathryn Bigelow The Wachowski Brothers Martin Scorsese James Cameron Michael Mann Brian De Palma The Guy who did Transporter 3 John Carpenter Rob Zombie & Sorry ass Michael Bay circa The Rock & Bad Boys
Hey, tough guy, why don't you lay off the comic books and check out...Rachel Getting Married, and, um..Becoming Jane.
Hire this guy for action jackson satistfaction fighting scene. <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/muCtJsy-d9w" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>
I wouldn't discount Bane as a good villain out of hand especially if they keep to his comic origins and persona from the comics. He sorta fits perfectly into Nolan's Batman universe. Bane is not the grunting simple minded villain that pretty much everyone remembers from the travesty that was "Batman & Robin". His comic persona is starkly different than what was portrayed in that movie heck he even straddled the line as anti-hero in some of his stories. In the comics Bane is one of Batman's most tactical, manipulative, intelligent and physically strongest (due to the venom drug ) adversaries. He is constantly hunting Batman with the sole purpose of destroying him. Again if they go with the comic origins Bane is a pretty good choice here.
Does anybody really care about action scenes? Its about a story. Derived from comics, in which there is no live action whatsoever, yet they are just as compelling. This isn't a Chuck Norris franchise.
I really like both choices for Bane and Catwoman, especially Hathaway she's a great actress and I think she'll do well. And I agree the action sequences are irrelevant in these movies.
Oh really? Good actions enhances a movie even more making it an all around great movie experiences. Imagine how crappy Kick Ass would have been if the actions totally suck.
how are they gonna make Bane a gangster? i don't want him to be just a villain with super strength terrorizing the city. cheesy. cops can just shoot Bane and he'll die. Are they gonna make Bane use guns? I just can't see how he's gonna be a good villain. Is he gonna appear out of nowhere and kick Batman's ass? And is he gonna wear a mask and look like a wrestler? So many questions..
Imagine how great Kick Ass would have been if it had anything near of a storyline as the two Batman movies.
It seems so trivial to me. It does so little, if anything to advance the story. I get bored during action sequences, especially in superhero movies (crazy as that sounds), its a story not a wrestling match. Its why they found Bale for the role and not Van Damme.
Without the action, TDK is just 70mins long. No opening sequnce bank robbery, no Hong Kong section (Good thing IMHO), no Batmobile chases, no Joker blowing s-hit up, No Bateman beating people up, and no ending. Think about what you post next time.
I don't think he meant that type of action. Nolan is excellent with explosions and bank robberies. He meant the hand to hand combat obviously.
I'm past worrying about details like that. Nolan can polish turds and turn them into gold as far as I'm concerned. Bane is an excellent villain and it'll be interesting to see what Nolan can come up with regarding him. That said I think I might be the only one that's not excited to see Catwoman in the next film.
Yeah but Scarecrow's thing is harassing the minds of people.. Bane is all physical. how is he gonna be a threat to cops? Just shoot the b*stard.
Exactly. If you're complaining about the bank scenes or the Joker chase then you have problems, those sequences were great.
