Speaking of record sales, can someone tell me a website where I can how many records an artist has sold so far?
. . . . . . Of horses and Zebras BTW . . . How many white folx in this country vs the number of black folx? Triple R - HEY NO-MMMMMAAAAHHHHHH can I add REVENGE as another R QUAD-R !!!!!
You are correct, Shooter. Many blacks do not like Eminem because he is encroaching on "their turf." Many blacks do not like Yao Ming because he is encroaching on "their turf." Many blacks do not like the European influx into the NBA for the very same reaons. Racism does not just go one way. In a perfect world, this mindset would not exist, but unfortunately it is human nature for most.
I'm white? Rocket River -- in all seriousness, I have never seen you make a well-thought-out argument that objectively lays out your support for the topic. The vast majority of your posts consist of you mocking other people's opinions. Sure you can disagree with someone, but do it in a thoughtful manner, don't just do it by throwing in a lot of !?!?!?!?!?! and LMAO's. I find the bulk of your posts to be completely vacuous.
Per the 2000 Census it is about 6 to 1 whites vs blacks, what is your point though? The same white people that buy Eminem buy Jay-Z, Nelly, etc? Eminem is very popular right now - selling to all races. I think you are a little overboard with your racial comments...
No offense TJ, but this is not a "well-thought-out argument that objectively lays out your support for the topic", but rather ridiculous assumptions made by you. I have yet to hear a black man or woman say they don't like Eminem, Yao Ming or Euros because they are entering and doing well in industries and businesses that have been historically dominated by blacks.
Rap music has been hijacked by pop stars. So has Rock, so has country. We live in a commercial world and the commercial is aimed at 15 year old girls.
Then you must have missed Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley ripping all the Euro draft picks on draft night. You also must have missed Collie (and many others) on SportsRadio 610 calling in a ripping on the Rockets for picking Yao Ming. You also must have missed Rocket River (and a host of others) comments on this BBS about Eminem, Ming, Euros. There is little doubt that this sentiment exists. Like I said before, it is basic human nature. When you take pride in people who are similar to you, then you naturally resist efforts to take that group's power away from them. This is what is occuring.
Trader Jorge I generally don't give a d*mn what you think. You have reconceived notions on many things and many people and generally IMO a close minded individual. I generally don't waste my time with you. FOR THE RECORD - as many have pointed out ALOT OF BLACK FOLX LIKE EM I don't not because he white. . but because I don't feel his music I love my mom .. . so his rants against his mom does not interest me [Someone dissing their own mom is distasteful to me] I'm not into drugs so his drug related stuff is not for me. I don't like Dre cause he fake to me I don't like Snoop because he weak . . since Dogghouse Em has ONE Good song for me. . .Stan and the new one is ok As for his acting skillz. . . . It remains to be seen but judging by the previews the story line is not strong enough to support a Award winning performance. . .as someone pointed out. . FLASHDANCE 2002 So basically. . You TRAITOR_GEORGE ad NO-MAAAAHHHHHH can go to montana and tell your fellow Militia folx about this Black man on the BBS that DOES NOT LIKE EM . .. or whatever lies, bull**** or whatever that make your world go around so that you can think you have a handle on all folx in all situations Quad R.
His point is that the majority of people who buy rap are white kids, not black kids. In addition to that, Eminem gets mainstream air play on MTV and radio stations that other rappers never got in the past. It is undeniable that Eminem's being white helps his sales in a major way, especially in an era of rap that I would say is really not well defined after the deaths of Pac and BIG.
You could make this a black / white thing, but i think this would be false. In every style of music, the songs that get the most air play are the ones that have mass appeal, regardless of what color someone is. I listen to country/bluegrass and I rarely see MTV cover them, but in the same respect, rap has been covered by MTV for years. What I am saying is that if I wanted to I could make the same claim you do that MTV is racist against rednecks or whatever you'd call people that listen to this kind of music. Of course, this is not true. The reason MTV doesn't play country/ bluegrass is because this style of music has limited appeal. Sure, I'd like to see them play Bill Monroe or Willie Nelson or Dolly Parton, just as I'd like to see 36Mafia, but it wont happen as long as MTV is worried about mass appeal. And BTW, I don't think Eminem has had more air play than Hammer or even Ice; I'd have to see those numbers.

[/QUOTE] When white kids listen to his music because he's white, when MTV plays his videos because their audience is predominantly white, when mainstream radio stations play his music because their audience is also predominantly white, then how am I making it a black/white thing? Seems I'm just the one pointing it out, not making it anything. His race plays a large role in his success. If someone ever asks him about it he will agree if he's honest at all. Your exampls of Cube and Hammer I don't believe are fair. Eminem likes to paint himself as this hard core rapper, not a house party/dance music type guy which is one of the reasons people hate on Eminem when they don't on other white rappers of the past like the Beastie Boys and 3rd Bass. Did you ever hear Ice Cube on mainstream radio from his NWA days? No way. Ice Cube put out songs (Steady Mobbin, Jackin for Beats) that are probably better than anything Eminem will ever make and all we hear from Cube on mainstream radio is his dance/club music like Pushing Rhymes and We Be Clubbin, certainly not even getting the same amount of time either. I guess there is a certain stigma in rap where you can go from hard core to hip hop (Ice Cube, LL Cool J) but not the other way around. BTW, there is such a thing as Country Music Television. Country has a whole station to itself!
i'm so not getting into this argument...but just to be technical...i have three words for you, Timing... B. E. T. !
Those aren't words, those are letters. Why is MTV showing all Eminem all the time if BET is "the" tv station for rap?
I assumed he meant Cube if he was going with the white/black thing. Vanilla only had one song really so not much to judge on. Hot songs come and go but Eminem's air play on MTV has been pretty high since day one.
damn!! you beat me on another technicality!!! of course those letters stand for words...but who's arguing? certainly not me! i don't know the answer to your question...truly i don't care. i haven't heard good rap music since tribe called quest broke up. i don't care much for eminem...i don't care much for most rappers today. i used to love rap music...and i used to watch those old school rappers on BET quite regularly...loved New Edition, too, which I used to catch on BET! "if it isn't love...why do i feel this way...why does she stay on...my mind?" -- great stuff!! man, i miss my childhood!
