I would like Morey to inquire them about Nene and not Carmelo. A whole seperate deal involving Nene and shedding some of their contracts they dont want for him. Leave Carmelo out of the deal. I would deal Scola for Nene and maybe even Jordan Hill. Move Patrick to starting PF or Chuck Hayes to his natural starting position at Pf nexxt to Nene. Then this team would be more balanced naturally. Take Jr Smith in the deal and that solves offense off the bench at SF position. Thats the deal we should do.
In fact this deal might be done for them as a last ditch move to try and entice Carmelo to stay. They could say they are doing moves to make them better. They get Scola and Hill and say lets make one more run at the Championships with Scola as better than Nene to try and sell to Carmelo. Hill will be their center or backup to Birdman most likely. We could get Nene and be just peachy at center. They get rid of JR Smith and maybe even get Budinger back in his place if they want back more scoring?
It's still a gamble. If the new CBA allows players to make $30 million more sticking with a team than leaving there is a good chance he stays. Plus the Knicks won't have enough to give Melo a max contract without a sign and trade.
Either way, we can lose Melo to NY this summer. But are you going to be watching the Rockets past the trade deadline if we still have Battier and Hayes starting?
I would do this, don't know if DEN would. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6eecj4r I'd include our other 2012 pick, and if they asked, I'd throw in Patterson or Hill.
^ Maybe real or maybe MElo's trade me where I want to go or call me Chuck(er) - his plan B. Plan C is a hammy injury.
Because you are loosing Yao's contract, Jeffries, and Battier's. What's the difference in letting Yao's Contract vs Carmelo's expire?
I know that no matter what the roster is after the trade deadline I will be watching Rockets games whenever they are on. And if you are on this forum you should be with me on that. We are fans of this team and organization, not just players.
Even if Carmelo bolted, I'd be willing to take the gamble, depending on how much is given up simply because I think the amount of assets morey is willing to give up for a melo rental is probably worth less than a monster TE. Morey has shown that what he values most is enough expirings/TE's to be able to cover a large trade.
Thumbs up for the thread title... took me a few seconds before I figured it out and clicked My opinion... if we "rent" Carmelo for half a season, we could possibly convince him to sign again.
Melo said he wouldnt join nets, he said nothing about the trade going to NEw Jersey, but sure New York .. but i heard NY doesnt have the players to get melo.
I remember saying that Denver should have dealt him before the season because that is when their hand was actually the strongest. Melo has a pretty sweet situation staying in Denver right now. He will go to the playoffs, be Signed and Traded in the offseasn (still likely getting the max 3 yr 65 million extension) and that is only a few months away. As well, he remains a Kobe injury away from the West opening up big time. I think he wants sit it out at this point. But he plays hard for Denver and I would assume that he would play hard for us or another team for the rest of the year if we was traded. I do think we would at least have a chance of getting him to sign after the season if we made a run into the playoffs and showed promise.
Denver is the girl that Melo wants to break up with. It's not that she doesn't have a nice rack or doesn't try...he's just bored of her and doesn't see himself committing. NY is the super hot chick that Melo really wants to date, and she wants Melo too, but can't make the time to seriously go after him because she's kinda dating around. NJ is the good girl who will dedicate herself and sacrifice to make Melo happy, but somehow he's not quite sure that he digs her as much. Houston is just the desperate chick that Melo would bang if all of the other girls died in a horrible disfiguring accident. And even then he might decide to go with someone entirely different.
