Wasn't there a stat that proved that Rudy Gay is the worst defender playing in the NBA?

I like Kevin more than Rudy.

I think it's pretty obvious if you've seen him this year that Rudy's defense is much improved over last year.

Yes. I dont know why. Rudy Gay is younger than Kevin Martin and he is not the abomination on defense Martin is. Kevin Martin should be banned from jogging down to the play defense on the opposing players. Scoring would be harder to do on him if he just stayed on the other side of the court waiting to score more points for himself.

i was thinking about a similar comparison between m. ellis. People love him but he is also a liability on defense.

Rudy Gay is a poor man's Tracy McGrady, while Kevin Martin is a poor man's Rip Hamilton. IMO Martin is closer to Hamilton than Gay is to McGrady.

But both Gay and Hamilton are getting paid like their richer counterparts at their peak.

Rudy Gay has improved defensively. I think it has alot to do with MGasol improving defensively in his 3rd season. It allows him to play more aggresive defensively. His horrid defense may have had to do with having Kwame Brown/Darko back there or a rookie MGasol in previous seasons.

...and we could have drafted him without giving up ANY assets. I don't know what hurts more -- doing that deal or knowing CD/Morey would have taken Sefalosha over Gay.

Rudy Gay dunks more, and looks great doing it.

Sure, it means nothing when it comes to wins, but that's the reality of the situation. People like Rudy because he gives you highlight reel material.

You have seen how they officiate international basketball right?

Kevin martin would do better than just about anyone on that team and probably as good if not better than players like kobe and wade.

There's no "whistle goes away" at the end of games, free throws ramp up more than down, and because of the clock rules in int'l rules, there's no real clutch, add to that the game is shorter so endurance is barely a factor.

The very reason people like Scola flop all over the place, is because it's much like soccer, it's how you get easy points in a game that is won by free throws and 3's.

That's what I thought too, but Martin's winning both the polls for best player and favorite player on the board right now. I guess the silent majority thinks otherwise?

You need to be as good as Gerald Wallace (which only maybe Lebron is) to play good defense on the wing if your front line is a sieve.

The fascination with Rudy Gay is amazing.

    Neither play defense.

Martins a better offensive player and is cheaper.

I always get a chuckle out of the fickleness of some posters. Rudy is a loser, stat stuffer on a poor team, but martin is so effecient that he's put up good numbers on poor teams and disappears in tight game situations. Rudy is a better player, but he's not a max player. Martin is paid about inline with with his worth. I prefer a guy who can make contested shots. In the playoffs and in tight games, thats what it comes down to.

Come on now, you're forgetting the opportunity cost of Shane Battier, who has brought this team so much success during the time we've had him.
