OK, been paintin' my kitchen listening and watching college and pro football and all weekend long there have been these really good MAC commercials and they all say, "And it never crashes".
OH PLEASE! I worked on a G-4 doing graphics type of work for a few years and it crashed at least twice daily.

    thank-you carry on...

what's funnier is the one commercial where the guy says "i've even had people tell me they don't know what kind of cable i need to plug from the PC to my (digital) camera." everyone you know must just be a dumbass.

well those are some freakin' morons! ummm, a USB cable that can be purchased from your camera's manufacturer?

geez these commercials get on my nerves.

Couldn't resist this, but it's a pet hate of mine - it's 'Mac', not 'MAC'. Mac is short for Macintosh, it isn't an acronymn.

mr_oily, what OS was the G4 you used running. I'm on OS X, and it is the most stable desktop OS I've ever used (OpenBSD doesn't count :D )

The worst one is the guy who couldn't figure out how to make a photo album with his PC. For the kind of stuff he was doing (captions  ) he could even use Microsoft Paint.

If you are running OS 9 upgrade to 10.2 Jaguar. Once you get your system swithced from 9 to X your mac should be running fine.

I'm reminded of my old Java teacher....we were discussing Macs during one of our classes, and he told us that he is a 'Closet Mac Fan'. That is, he uses them, but doesn't tell anyone!

I suppose you had to be there..... :) It was funny in the context of the conversation.

Okay, I'm just padding my post count with useless stories no one understands.... :D

I think the deal is that most people who use PC's don't know anything about Microsoft Paint or understand what a USB cable is. Most people can barely get the thing turned on, let alone understand the complexities of hardware and software.

My aunt is a good example of the traditional computer user. She uses it at work for email and for Microsoft Word, but when she finally got a computerat home, I had to hook everything up and show her how to turn it on, boot up the software, etc.

Most people in here are like the computer guys at companies who get frustrated by the non-computer people. Truth is that the vast majority of people are the non-computer people. They think Java is coffee and USB is a television network.

If that is how you view computers, chances are a Mac will make your life easier. Since the majority of Americans use the computer to surf the net, check email and compose letters, most of them could care less if they are on a PC or Mac. They just want the damn thing to work.

mr oily: Macs definitely crash when you are using big applications or many at the same time, especially graphics software. That would happen with any computer.
