I'm sure jackson would do a better job, although i've never been a fan. I believe we have excellent players that are not being used to the fullest of their abilities and are not being used for the right situations. Many big time analyst also agree that the rockets are grossly underachieving. On paper we look pretty good. Coaching is not just about drawing up plays..... I'm sure coaches are supposed to be a leader in a team; they are supposed to have some sort of authority/respect in a team...... For the most part, the best coaches have been those that are of strong character. Like Bob Knight Tonight, the hornets were down in the 4th quarter and I'm certain the coach influenced/inspired them to a win.
The cold spell in the 4th and the sudden disappearance of defense is what did them in tonight. Scola missed a bunch of FTs, any of which would have won us the game. The lack of defensive rebounds in the 4th and OT were also big factors in the L. Watching this team this season, I see nothing but great pieces. Kevin Martin - Efficient scorer, lethal from the 3 point line, easily gets to the line. Kyle Lowry - A power-PG, can get in the lane, defensive-minded. Luis Scola - Can score inside and out to the mid-range. Hustles and plays hard. Shane Battier - Leader in and off the court, knows the system, able to hit big shots. Chuck Hayes - The true defensive anchor of the team. Undersized, but makes up for it with strength, good positioning, and good hands. Aaron Brooks - Quick, can stroke the 3, and get in the lane. Courtney Lee - Athlete, good defense, can hit the 3, can get in the air. Jordan Hill - Raw but long hands, developing a hook shot, spurts of great defense. Patrick Patterson - Strong, solid young player with a good basketball foundation. Terrance Williams - Young, athletic, and has the potential to be a defensive stopper. Has shown the ability to find the open man. Jared Jeffries - Tall, lean, defensive-minded, and hustles. Yes, I only mentioned the pros of each player and left out their deficiencies. But the point here is that they are all viable assets that unfortunately hasn't meshed well due to 1) Yao's season-ending injury, and 2) too many pieces but not the right pieces. If DM plays his cards right, we could net ourselves the perfect pieces that will catapult this team, if not this season then certainly in the near future. A part of me keeps hoping for a season-changing trade, much like the one in 05' when we landed Wesley and Barry. It was a different GM and a team that centered around Yao and TMac, but it was the perfect shake-up that roster needed to meet its full potential. We're all antsy for a trade, and rightfully so. The team cannot stand pat and finish the season mired in mediocrity. I fully trust and support whatever changes are on the way.
Just as clutch stated, we can deal with losing as long as we have that vision. I mean, at the tail of Hakeem's run, we got mobley and then francis. Then the rockets moved and and got griffin. The following year, they got yao and the fan base was thinking we had something. Francis and mobley had faults, but we managed to get mcgrady to pair with yao. Through those losing seasons or seasons in which we didnt get where we wanted, we saw the potential. The potential of this team is average because we have replication of players or older ones eating minutes up.There are some young players who need to play imo. Hopefully they pull a trade and open minutes for guys like patterson, hill, lee, chase and williams. Otherwise, this will be a 30 win team with vets playing big minutes.
Oh I see, the Rockets need one of those coaches that does well with bad players (not sure who that might be, but let's go with it). Then I guess when they get good players, they need to go back to an Adelman-type. This seems like a sound strategy. I for one am intrigued.
This is pretty much money. Where is the direction? Who is this team building around? The answers I believe are yet to be determined. I don't think it's from a lack of trying by Morey, he just hasn't been able to land that player/s to build around. I believe in Morey being the man for this job, but as the losses pile up, the clock seems to be ticking faster.
dont see any difference between rick's coaching and van gundy's coaching other than offense and defense. both these guy have brought their sh!tty players from other franchises to ruin this team. (charlie ward, charles oakley, k-mart, brad miller.) k-mart can put up numbers, but what is the point if he can't do it in critical situations?
a better job at what? jackson rides opponents hot streaks more than adelman ever has, people dont b**** about it because he has a history of having teams that can reverse it. Hell the guy doesn't call a timeout in the final seconds of the nba finals because he's had players who "get them ball, watch them win" is actually the best strategy for the team.... Right now, Adelman is trying to a run an offense designed for mediocre player, because thats what we have. Our backcourt is pretty good, our front court though is close to the worst in the nba.
Freak, it's not even worth it, have you seen the madness in the garm tonight? I've been searching for some intelligent back and forth since the game ended.
What happened with Feigen? http://www.nba.com/rockets/video/2011/01/15/Adelman011411MOV-1524057/index.html Translation please?
Who are we building around?Nobody. Getting a lottery pick might not be bad thing for Rocket unless we can get a star.
I'm not sure what's going anymore. Many times this season I have seen the Rockets play a game with absolutely no plans whatsoever, especially in the 4th quarter. They just dribble around, dribble around a pick, dribble back to the top, and [insert some terribly executed play]. I'm not sure whether it's Adelman or the players because at this point it's really hard to point out. It could be Adelman's fault due to not getting on the player's ass to fix their mistakes or it could be the players fault for their "lazy" play style. If you look at tonight's game, no matter what kind of lead we have, we can't seem to keep it let alone find a way to score. Though issues like these could be due to not having a superstar who can take control but at the same time it seems like the players just don't communicate. Many times in this game I was thinking "where is the help" or "wtf are they doing, why arent they doing something?" and it just bothers me that there's no team style play. I remember (a while back)they were running the curl(?) or whatever it's called where scola is at post and martin would curl around him giving them several options to score. It actually worked for quite a while and yet for some reason, they stopped doing that now. I'm glad they stepped up their defenses in some ways but for some odd reason, they just....stopped or halfassed getting back from a pick and roll (in the 4th quarter). I swear we have one of the worst pick and roll defenses in which Adelman really needs to get on their ass for. I just dont know anymore.
This is what I'm talking about. Bad defenders don't just magically get better if a coach "gets on their ass" about it. If that was the case, every single player in the NBA could be a great pick and roll defender. Kyle Lowry could be Deron Williams if Adelman just yelled at him enough. Average players are going to play average. When you have a team full of them, it's gonna be an average team. When the other team has stars like Chris Paul and David West, it's not a shock that those guys make plays and Kyle Lowry doesn't. This is a league based, above all else, on superstar players. It's like that for a reason, because at the end of games, when players start playing hard and giving their all, superstars take their games to levels that other players can't match. No matter what Rick Adelman or whoever else does, Kyle Lowry is not gonna match Chris Paul because he isn't capable of doing that, he's a role player. Kevin Martin is not gonna magically turn into a great closer, he's not capable of that. The teams that are great are the ones that take guys like Lowry and Martin and put them in roles they can thrive in and don't ask them to do more than they're capable of. They leave the heavy lifting to the guys who can do the heavy lifting (stars and superstars) and have guys like Lowry coming off the bench for 5-6 minute energy sparks, or guys like Kevin Martin to come in to space the floor, they don't put the game in their hands.
Didn't watch the game tonight, movies, so I won't comment on the game itself but the Rox are now 4-17 vs winning teams and are within a few games of entering the bottom ten of the NBA. These loses are becoming habit and their flaws are obvious. We aren't a playoff team and that is also obvious so from now on, it is all about the deadline and development.
