Carmello is no closer coming to houston than amare was which was zero. Battier and scola for amare? Gimme a freaking break. The deal wasnt even close and once the rockets traded landry, phoenix wanted the rockets to give up the picks they just got, brooks and chase and take back barbosa and amare wasnt going to sign an extension. So it had more spin on it like Oswalts curve ball and was reported the rockets turned it down because of a physical. Please!

Right. I had the idea NY would be using a TPE under this scenario. NY doesn't have the room to fit Melo's contract; their projected team salary for next season is $42 million; if the cap stayed the same ($58 million), they'd have room for a $16 million contract. The contract Melo'd walk away from right now is $65 million for 3 years, I think, $21 million his first year. The cap next season will certainly go down. I guess you're assuming Melo'd take less?

NY'd gain $3 million more if they didn't extend Wilson Chandler, and they have a $900K team option on Bill Walker. Plus, they could have a fire sale on their other players to gain some space. Maybe we can gain something there...

I guess they could do it using this year's numbers, but I understand the owners want to cut the cost of salaries by one-third. They might limit the max salaries, they might cut current salaries, and they will almost certainly cut the salary cap itself. If they cut that by one-third in the next season, that would leave a $39 million cap.

Like I keep saying, I believe Melo will sign a contract this season, and maybe he'd sign with us with the understanding that we would make a pre-specified trade with the Knicks next season.

Wrong. People seem to forget, Carmelo is the rental, the other players coming along with him(Nene?, Harrington?, Smith?) are not. This is the reason why Morey would do such a deal, imo. It would put us right up there with the elites. Ecspecially if the deal were something like Battier, Jeffries, Hill and Yao, (TE for Harrington)2012 pick for Melo, Nene, Smith and Harrington.

If Melo signs the extension, he'd make the same $18.52M he is currently scheduled to make next season if he doesn't opt out of his contract. So, his cap figure this offseason will be either $18.52M (with an extension under the current CBA) or some other (likely smaller) amount (as a free agent under the new CBA).

New York would likely dump some talent in a desperate attempt to clear enough cap room to sign him. More likely, they'll get almost enough cap room and then trade a small amount of salary in exchange for a re-signed Melo (remember, at a likely lower cap figure, since a SIGN-and-trade would be under the new CBA).

Yeah, Melo has that option for one year, but he can sign a longer-term contract this year that would most likely bring him a bunch more money in the long run. He's losing a lot of money if he doesn't sign a contract this season.

Also, they're talking about clawing back existing salaries, for Melo and everybody else. FWIW.

I can't believe Melo is not going to sign a new contract this year, no matter what he says. I think he's playing people. He's now saying NJ needs to convince him. All show, I say.

    Carmelo to Rockets! Maybe???

After checking the web everyday about the Melo-drama, I found it hard to understand why the Nets, Nuggets, etc. deal couldn't get finished. The Nuggets kept backing out of the deals and it didn't make sense, until now. I think they have been waiting to see if the Rockets woud get the exception for Yao. With that extra exception, the Rocket have a CRAZY amount of flexiblity to construct a trade. The Nuggets have been saying they want financial "freedom" and the Rockets can give it, probably better then any other team in the league. The Nuggets say they don't want to trade Carmelo to a Western Conf. teams, but they have to think that it is only for half a season. I think something is about to go down real quick...

If he gets traded to houston im not sure if he will ask for an Extension unless theres another superstar there. Btw where did you find this out from ?
Dont we have ariza and yao's trade exceptions that would be good.

I hope i hope melo can bring something to the rockets.

he doesn't want to play for the rockets and as nice as it would be to get him it's no point in getting a player who doesnt want to play for your team.

I only want Melo if we can sign him, and we go out and get a quality big.

    No, just say no...

His going to cost us young players and a high 2011 draft pick and then leave us in the off season... and the only thing we could possibly get in return is whatever the knicks decide to give us in a sign-and-trade..

    Not worth it!
