Favors. Hill reminds me of Ronny Turiaf...a foul prone player who'll pick up 6-8 boards, 2 blocks here and there but needs to be spoon fed on offense Favors has 18/10 2 blocks potential
That comment was about the national perception of Favors not the rockets. On-the-contrary, Morey wanted to move up to get Cousins. We also signed Artest and traded for Twill. I don't think we're worried about that aspect anymore under Morey.
Not talking about nice guy issues, I'm talking about possible issues like overall lazyness, getting in shape, coachability, will to improve, basketball iq etc. Good negative example would be Derrick Coleman. How good were the Nets after they got him? Yeah, if the prize is right, Morey will take "knuckleheads" with talent. Though I still think he would have preferred Favors to Cousins before the draft, if given the choice. Cousins was more attainable, and that's why there were/are more rumours about him.
We have seen a lot of Hill and he hasnt shown us anything that justifies a top 8 pick. You have to remeber S.Curry, B.Jennings, T.Will and others should have been picked beofre Hill.. NY made a massive screw up picking Hil at 8. He should have been 14-15 pick. Favours ont he other hand has only played 40 games or so. But he has been satrting lately and getting around 25 mins. He is averaging 12 points 7 boards and a block. In time this thread is going to look ridiculus. I cant believe Hill is compared to Favours. Hill and Favours dont belong in the same sentence. Hill doesnt even belong in the same sentence or level as Taj Gibson. Hill deserves comparisons to Darrel Arthur or Dj White. I would rather take Humpries than Hill, hell even Shelden Williams. Josh Powell is putting up numbers like Hill, there you go. Hill will never outplay the like of Blatche, J.Thompson, Hickson, or even T.Hansborough. These gusy will never be stars but will always be a few levels over Hill. Time will tesitfy.
You can really judge Jordan Hill for his past statistics. The Knicks didn't even give him playing time. He was warming the bench every game for them. Basically his time here at the Rockets is like "real" 1st year playing pro.
I remember watching Shelden Williams in the playoffs, and he may have been one of the worst players I have ever witnessed. Hill is not THAT awful. That said, he clearly is not comparable to Favors. I think Simmons once said somewhere that NY were hoping that one of Flynn, Rubio, or Curry would make it to #8, and was thrown in a panic when all of them were gone, and so they just grabbed Hill. Good job KAHHHHHNNNNNNN.
Unfortunately this reason has been used to justify Jordan Hill's inconsistency a bit too much. There is no doubt that Jordan has great potential (extremely athletic, offensively adept and defensively promising), however, his lack of motivation at times combined with obvious short comings in understanding the fundamentals of defence really makes watching him hard. Think we've all been a bit guilty of being a bit over-excited after a great performance and then overly critical after a poor one. While I'd love to see Jordan Hill become a star in this league, realistically I think he should strive for consistency first. At present his defence and in game concentration is really what is letting him down. So instead of expecting him to put up 20-10 every game, what I'd like to see is consistent effort all the time. How the Rockets organisation are going to get that out of him is another question. However, once Chuck Hayes and Brad Miller get healthy, they may have an opportunity to send a message. Place Patterson before Hill in the rotation and see what kind of response we can get out of him. Effort begins at practice and if a bit of friendly rivalry/demotion is necessary, then so be it. In regards to the Favors vs. Hill debate. Not sure if there really is a debate here at all. Favor's is very young and just as if not more athletic. However, judging from the brief times I have watched the Nets play (honestly not much), he suffers from the same problem as Jordan. That is, consistency. Plus, playing for Avery Johnson can turn any rookie insane. Now Favors has much more time to develop and it would be nice to see what numbers he would produce now he has started the last four games for the Nets. Guess only time will tell but if any of us had the choice between Favors and Jordan Hill, think the choice is a no brainer. Favors has potential stamped on his forehead.
