Kids make mistakes. What's Vince's excuse for his shenanigans as a pro? I'm not saying that Newton will be a can't miss like Bradford. We haven't seen him under center so that's still a big question mark but we didn't see that from Vick coming out of college either. He's not going to play right away..nor should he. The team that drafts him should be patient like the Oilers were with Steve Mcnair. If he remains in great shape and becomes a student of the game, he should do well in the NFL. The last time I checked, freakin Tim Tebow was already starting for a NFL team.
Most kids aren't breaking the law when they make mistakes. Has Vince broken any laws with all his "shenanigans" since going pro?
passing =? No way. Cam's mechanics are at least good. Vince's where garbage and are still not that good.
Umm ya they are But I'll play along so here goes -- Spoiler <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uUMMztIWGA8?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uUMMztIWGA8?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></object> http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/061410dnspovinceyoung.9f145fa4.html
Cam Newton is not near as good as Vick or VY were in college football. His integrity and character are questionable to say the least. Highly unlikely he pans out to a good NFL QB.
VY you could easily win the argument based on bowl performance. Vick, he was a super talent but his college career was not that spectacular. Cam had an amazing year. almost 3k yard passing and 1.5k in rushing to go along with 21 rushing tds and 30 passing.
Cam Newton might of had the stats but if anyone watched the tape of Vick you knew he was special. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/F65K0ETLQZk?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/F65K0ETLQZk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/akzUKbrvKts?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/akzUKbrvKts?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> He was so much faster and in my opinion had a much better arm than Newton.
My 2 cents on comparing: Michael Vick Running: Unbelievable elusiveness and speed. Decent power. No QB in history like him. Off the charts. Passing: Cannon arm with accuracy problems. He can "throw it through a brick wall". Vince Young Running: Very good elusiveness and speed. Decent power. Passing: So so arm strength with accuracy problems. Cam Newton Running: Not as elusive as the other two. Good power. Passing: Decent arm strength and decent accuracy. Michael Vick's skill set translated very well to the NFL because of his athleticism and ability to make huge plays running the ball. It compensated for his lack of passing accuracy and made him one of the biggest playmakers in the NFL even before this season. His rocket arm also allows him to make every conceivable throw. Sorry to the many VY supporters here, but my take is he was not a very good QB most of his career. The combination of a so so arm with inaccuracy is tough to overcome. Yet, because of his running ability, he was able to succeed in winning primarily because the Titans defenses compensated for their poor offense. For Cam Newton, his lack of being elusive limits his effectiveness as a runner. In the NFL, he won't be putting his head down very often. His size will be effective making him harder to tackle in the pocket, but linebackers and some safeties will tee off on him if he tries to bull for yardage like in college. He must be a better passer than the other two to be successful at the next level.
I know i'm all late to this thread, but I think I'd take Young over Newton. Young was and (can still be) incredible special on the field in the right situation. Don't get me wrong, Newton is damn good, but there's only one Vince Young.
vy showed up when it mattered most against a usc team fans and media were labeling as the goat. cam won the title, but he didn't awe me doing it. i take vince
of course people thought he was special, he is an amazing athlete and probable the best we've ever seen at the QB position in the nfl. Vick is much faster and probably does have a better arm...but that doesnt mean he was a better college player. But like I mentioned, Vick never had a college year like Cam or VY.
