Forgot to get any insulation for the pipes here at the house. Anything I can do last minute to protect during the freeze?

    You mean the outside pipes?

Socks/rags/towels over the faucet, and a little foam box or cooler duct taped to the wall covering the faucet.

I put a little radiant space heater in my garage to try to keep the wall warm where the pipes are.

I usually just keep the water running, and that works like a charm.

I sometimes do newspaper to wrap the outside faucet followed with a plastic grocery bag to keep it dry. You can also do newspaper covered with duct tape.

Of course a lot of this could be avoided if home builders would simply run the pipe all the way underground until it comes into the house, rather than exposing it.

This depends how cold it is going to get where you are at and how long it will be. The rags and newspaper are OK if its not going to be too cold but if it is really cold under 20 degrees you best keep the water running in addition to wrapping.
