Do you think Josh Smith could fit with the Rockets and fill our defensive void?

If you trade Martin, Yao, Brooks, Hill, and Budinger for Carmelo, Chauncey, and Birdman who do you have on the books for 2012? Just Lowry, Scola, the 2011 draft pick, Lee, Williams, Patterson, Birdman, and Brad Miller, who is only partially guaranteed for that year I believe.

Let's say, just for fun, Carmelo agrees to an extension with us. Wouldn't you have the ability to sign Dwight Howard and Chris Paul to play with him?

    2012 Lineup
    PG: Paul/Lowry
    SG: Lee/2011 draft pick?
    SF: Anthony/Williams
    PF: Scola/Patterson
    C: Howard/Birdman
That team is better than the Heat.

Anyway, this seems like a plan you could sell Melo and the others on. In 2012 the West will be less with Kobe and Dirk being 34, and Duncan and Manu will be 36. Nothing would stop us from playing the Heat in the finals every year.

Sure, we're not NYC or even Miami, but we are the 4th biggest city in America and we have no state income tax. I see no reason why Melo, Dwight, and Paul wouldn't want to play here.

I would only... and I stress only... do that trade if Carmelo agrees to an extension before the trade. Sure we can sign and trade him later to a team he wants (i.e. NY) but what will we get a crappy first rounder and a TE is my bet...

With all the rumors out there of Melo wanting to play in NY and Denver not wanting to trade Melo to the western conference, I would rather focus on trying to get Danny Granger... We can might be able to get him cheaper and he is lower risk in terms of leaving us with nothing...

I do like the idea of trying to acquire the Birdman, he is a good defender and can protect the paint.

    For Your Consideration:

4-Way Trade: Houston, Denver, New Orleans, Sacramento

    Houston:
    Okafor/Miller/Hayes
    Patterson/Hill/Hayes
    Anthony/Williams
    Williams/Lee
    Paul/Lowry

Our depth is a bit depleted (although it shores up our rotation), but we have great interior defense along with two superstars in Paul and Anthony. I think our starting line-up would be scary good and our bench very formidable.

    Denver:
Denver remains relevant in the playoff race with the additions of Martin/Scola/Ariza to Nene and Lawson. They are also able to shed salary with Yao's contract.

    New Orleans:
They receive a mixture of expiring contracts and young talent to start over.

    Sacramento:
They get Aaron Brooks, add depth and get expiring contracts

    Closing Comments:
Of course draft pick considerations would be dealt, but I wanted to strictly look at the players being traded. I think this works out for all teams involved. The only things that would work against it may be Denver dislikes their amount of depth and/or Sacramento feels that they aren't getting enough back for what they gave up.

Dayum that trade could work out if Denver starts looking for the best deal out there. Makes sense for all teams.

How about a trade with Phil but NOT for Iggy?

Young + Speights + Brand for something like Scola + Bud + Brooks + filler

Seems like we'd give up a lot, but we get two C's, and Speights is looking promising as a C early in his career. Young is the real prize here, can play SF or PF but is probably better as a PF. However, using him as a PF doesn't open up playing time for Ppat...

Maybe Phil goes for it to get rid of Brand's salary. Brooks and Scola have talent but are not as valuable as many clutchfans seem to think.

The Rockets do this trade to get value for Sc & Br, get two C's, and increase team defense as well as youth. We can't afford Brooks next year and Scola's defense is not helping our team win. Maybe we do separate trades of Hill and Miller to free up roster space and boost our SG/SF positions.

    Low/Williams/Ish
    Martin/Lee
    Batty/Williams
    Young/Ppat/Hill/Hayes
    Brand/Speights/Miller

You do realize Brand is more natural at the PF.
You do realize that at cost, Scola is worth way more then Brand and for 3 years. Did I say 3 years. Why do you think AI2 is a prize for taking Brand? Because no one wants!

Morey isn't that dumb... maybe something like

Yao, Jeffries, Budinger for Brand and Iguodala

but that hits our salary cap really hard....

Sorry. Any trade with Phillie dealing with Brand, absolutely must involve Iguodala.
