Once again...for you CAT. Its the perception. It doesnt matter how SA feels now, the fact that the 2 biggest FAs in two years griped about the absolute same things sticks out. How many recants did SA put out there for all future FA's to see? Drew a legitimate NBA PG???? Care to show me how many 3rd year 38 percent lifetime shooters, who dont dribble well, and dont pass well, and defend miserably PG's are starters in the NBA. Any one who cant see this is smoking something. Hes not even 2nd string on a Rox squad that won less than 40 percent of its games last year. Convince the Clipps not me. If your going to give me one example of a Mobley making it from the 2nd round, I guess I can give you every other second rounder that flopped. Or better yet, a few other successful 2nd rounders from other teams that match or superceded Mobleys status. Do I really have to go through that. Or is Rudy the only genius to have a non starting 2nd rounder who can score, on a losing team? And finally NO. McDyess took himself out of the running first. The Rox were still debating on which one, when he made his decision. Im sure Nugzfan will be around to clearify that one for you.
Drew scored 15 points and 6 assists this year as a starter. Clarify how you think that isn't good. HE DOESN'T FIT IN HERE. That is why he isn't the backup. That doesn't mean he isn't good at all. There's always a guy like Mobley every year or two in the 2nd round. But guess what? I've never seen a draft loaded with 2nd rounders like Cuttino Mobley. There is usually one at best every year that has that kind of impact. For Rudy to pick him ahead of all of those other players there shows a lot to me. And if there's one every year, the odds would be 1 in 29. Or every two years 1 in 58. I am impressed with Rudy for beating the odds and getting a spark plug that can potentially score 20 ppg and is attracting attention league wide on the market. And anyone who thinks an FA will care what Shandon says two weeks into the season must be smoking something as well. A SEASON OR CAREER ISN'T TWO WEEKS!!! Personally, I think other FA's look at Shandon and say man, look at this guy. He got a perfect fit in Houston, got involved in the offense, and blossomed into the type of player we never thought he could be. That's the way I look at it. But I understand what you're trying to say by it, and I'm not going to argue all night over this. There are better things to do. I just honestly wish some of you guys would stop being so negative and try and see the light for once, if you know what I mean. You look at the Shandon situation as a nagative. I look at it as a big positive. Half the other posters here say that getting any FA is impossible, and that Mobley will leave and that we will be in the basement. It just really makes me sick. This is a young emerging team with lots of promise, lots of hope, lots of heart, a good record in getting FAs, and a team led by a potential superstar and the best coach in basketball. Add in to that how they give 110% every night, and how well the team chemistry was at the end of last season. Add into that that so many people consider our draft a waste- and people just look at the color of Collier and Langhi's skin and some stupid scouting reports after never seeing them play a minute in college, and think they are scrubs who won't help at all. Give them a chance. Anyway, sorry for my rambling. Just something that had really gotten on my nerves ever since draft night. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited July 22, 2000).]
Since when was Glyde forced into retirement? According to him, he retired a year too late. (NBC interview) ------------------ "I'll take a Dream Shake for two, please."
Dreamshake, You've got to be one of the most negative people that I've ever heard of. If you hate the Rockets that much & can't find anything that they have done right in your opinion, then why don't you go post on the Clippers or Bulls BBS. They deserve to be criticized. JayZ750, I couldn't agree with you more. After reading all of Dreamshake's negative posts (that don't seem to have any purpose, except to get under everybodies skin), it's nice to read someone's post with a positive outlook towards the future. The Rockets are on the right path to rebuild this team back to what we have come to expect. Ya Gotta Believe!!! ------------------
SHOTS? Mcgrady, Christie, Oakley, Davis were all known to score more than ten a game. Mobely will have plenty of shots. He will also have more assists. Carter finishes like no other. The worst part about all this is that WE are beyond all the MEDIA SPIN DOCTORING. YOUR AVERAGE FAN COULD GET A NEW JERSEY AND BE HAPPY ABOUT THE TEAMS CHANCES. WHAT DO WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO? NEXT YEARS DRAFT I GUESS. FRANCIS 25 points per game...sure. I ALSO GUESS THE DREAM will free up a ton of cap room next year. WHAT ELSE IS THEIR TO SAY? ------------------
Look at Mobley's hypothetical Toronto situation: Oakley averaged less than 7 points per game. Davis is disgruntled. McGrady, their 2nd best player, and ONLY perimeter defender, and leading shot blocker is gone. Carter likely will follow as soon as he gets a chance (may not be for awhile). Take a look at Toronto's perimeter D. It is UGLY. They drafted Peterson, he may help, but he alone won't be able to overcome their deficiencies. Compare-Francis-Anderson-Walt Williams (or Croshere/Lewis if we're lucky.) to Mobley-Peterson-Carter. Mobley is back to playing point guard, which he doesn't play as well, because he's not nearly as good a passer as even Bryce Drew, and him and Carter are liabilities. Francis/Walt are both liabilities as well, but Anderson's defense for the time being is better than Peterson's. They also have no shot blocker down low (Kevin Willis, hah) while we still have Hakeem/Cato, 2 legit shot blocking threats. So, I see Toronto just being a mutated Sacramento....and without a 6'10'' rebounding/scoring Webber. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
Gascon. Glyde wanted another contract. Now Im not saying he deserved one, but the fact remains he didnt get one from the Rox. Cat...Matt Maloney put up similar numbers as the Rox starter. While being able to shoot better than 38 percent. What was everyones gripe about him. He couldnt shoot well. Im done arguing with you. Ive made my point very clear. Its actually very obvious. Just take off your homer glasses, and maybe youll see it to. Hottoddie...Interesting reply. Nowhere in this post did I rip the Rox, or say they were wrong for handling the players the way they did. Let me clearify it for you you dolt of caveman. ITS PERCEPTION. Ill wager that Ive been a Rox fan a tad longer than you. Please point out the negative posts your refering to. As it stands, Ive been around this board longer than you have. At least give a poinant response to the thread next time. Try to give me reasons as to why you believe Im wrong. Im sorry, let me put it in words youll understand Scottie2Hottie: Rah, Rah, sis boom bah. Were number one. The Rox are going to win the championship this year, Francis is going to be MVP. Cato will be an all Star. Try garnering a little respect around here before you go overboard on me. See its called a disagreement, and typically adults can have deisagreements without lashing out. Its called point/counterpoint. Guess you havent gotten to that point in grade school yet.
Matt Maloney put up similar numbers? Sorry, but Matt never even averaged 10 points, much less 15, and never 6 assists either. That's pretty obvious to me. You can't complain about Drew's 38% shooting when he gets to play so little. If you can't see that this guy is a pure shooter and will be a good one, you have some problems. Also, homer glasses? I'm just stating a few simple facts here that are undeniable. I'm sorry, but IMO that is not the definition of being a homer. And yes, I do understand what you mean by perception. But I just find it hard to believe that looking at the player Shandon Anderson has become here now can be a negative for future FA's. I find it hard to believe that when a player thinks of Shandon Anderson that they'll think solely of what his agent said TWO WEEKS into the season and not the player he became. Or I highly doubt that they'll see that statement by Shandon and never take into account how Shandon blossomed here. Maybe you do. But I don't. Dreamshake- what I'm sure Hottoddie was getting at was not that. It's just your whole post is nothing but negativity or that you think players' perspective of this team is negative. You call this year's draft a bad draft. You've never seen them play yet. You talk about Cuttino being gone. He isn't gone yet. You talk about Shandon's gripe after 2 weeks, but you don't talk about how thrilled he is now here. You talk about players being disgruntled, and you don't take into consideration the fact that they either weren't Rocket FA's or were traded. It's okay if you think that the Rockets have made some mistakes. They probably have. But you make it seem like that's all they do, and you never look at (or at least you never talk about) the positives as I have brought to mention in my previous posts. There's a way, in case you hadn't figured it out, to be somewhat optimistic about the Rockets without saying they'll be champions. It's just your posts show no or very little optimism at all, and you make it seem like people will perceive the Rockets as a terrible organization, which IMO isn't the case at all. That's all that bothered me with your posts. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited July 22, 2000).]
How about this - Dreamshake points out some of the low points in recent Rocket history of Houston handling players and says that Houston isn't such a hot spot for FAs right now. Well I don't see any good FAs knocking down the door to come to Houston. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
Crisco- Clutch said himself a few weeks ago that players were VERY attracted to Houston, and this summer was no different. I think he might know what he's talking about. You don't see any good FA's knocking on our door? Well first, you aren't in the front office. And second, Rashard Lewis is practically begging to play here. He wants here so bad. There's one. And Croshere loved his visit here. I'm sorry Crisco, but just because Duncan, Hill, and some other FA's aren't willing to come here and play for exceptions doesn't mean we aren't a hot spot with FA's. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com [This message has been edited by The Cat (edited July 22, 2000).]
okay, lets write the book of Clutch full of everything he says and act like good little automatons and not form our own opinions. Yeah Lewis wants to be here, apparently, but little good that does him or the Rockets. Croshere hasn't listed Houston as his number one destination, he has repeatedly stated he wants to be back in Indianna. Houston has some positives, but everything hasn't been all rosy as some would have us picture it. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
I don't think it's ALL rosy. But it isn't all negatives as Dreamshake made it look either. I just happen to believe that the positives here far outweigh the negative, and based on FA's in recent years and what I've heard this year from various places, it still appears to be the case IMO. ------------------ http://www.saveourcuttino.com
dreamshake, You're reaction to my comments just confirmed everything I said about you & I stand by my opinion. You are entitled to your opinions, but if you keep this up, I would venture to guess that it will start to turn more & more people off to your posts. While you've been posting on this BBS longer than I have, I doubt you've been a Rocket fan longer than I have. How old are you? (6 years old, maybe?) Just because you've been posting so long does not make you the wiser poster of the two of us and if earning respect here means that I can put people down that I know nothing about & continuously whine about the Rockets, instead of looking for positives to build on, then you can keep your respect. If you will reread my post, I never said your comments were wrong, just very negative. As far as you ripping the Rockets, then what do you call pointing out all the reasons why FA's would not want to come here & offering no reasons why they would want to? You don't hear me whining,(unlike yourself) so the Pippen reference must have been directed more to yourself. After all, that's all he did was find fault with the Rockets, so he could force their hand. Are you trying to get traded also? Why don't you try this idea for a change & you might be able to convince me that you really do like the Rockets. Try finding 10 positive things, that have substance, to say about the Rockets. The Cat, Thanks for covering my back. I couldn't have explained it any better, allthough I doubt he will even allow it to open his mind to other's opinions. ------------------
Cat, I agree with your last assessment. But I think some on this board go overboard thinking Houston is THE place that FAs want to go to and list all the good the Rockets have done, while failing to acknowledge the goofs. Mostly all you need to do to lure FAs is dangle money in front of them. Get money, and Houston will have FAs knocking on their doors. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate. [This message has been edited by CriscoKidd (edited July 22, 2000).]
Crisco, do you think the fact that we are over the cap would be a reason why FA's "aren't knocking down the door ?" There is no money. Also, players talk. Im sure all players know that SA is very happy here. And I'm sure most players know that scottie forced a trade because he wanted to be in LA. If you recall, he wasn't overjoyed with the Portland trade at first. ------------------ "Don't they get cable in Canada ?" Keith olbermann, after watching hakeem block terry catledge's shot 5 times.
Ive been a Rocket fan for 20 years But I doubt anyone cares ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
gr8-1, yeah, I think that is the main reason. If the Rockets had a bunch of money, I'm pretty sure they would be in the running for a top notch FA. ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
crisco, are you being sacrastic ? are you making fun of me and I dont know it ? :0 ------------------ "Don't they get cable in Canada ?" Keith olbermann, after watching hakeem block terry catledge's shot 5 times.
