People grow up in the span of 13 years. Amazing stuff.

 

Treeman offered me a lot of advice when I was joining the Army. He joined as well and we both hung out a bit before we left for our respective Basic Trainings. He went in as a Forward Observer....basically an advance spotter and/or scout for artillery. That's the last I know of him.

 

Thanks for that. Maybe it was because of a bet he made. Didn't he make some comment in D&D about there being WMD's in Iraq, or he'd (fill in the blank, because I can't remember!)?? The guy should have stuck around, if that was the case. He wasn't the only person led down the garden path, not by a long shot. In any event, I wish him well.

 

Hmm....I don't recall, but I didn't venture into D&D much in those days.

I also meant to add just as a reference point that it was in late 2001/early 2002 when we hung out. Hard to believe it was that damn long ago.

 

what happened to Toycen, i havent seen him post lately. aliens get a hold of him? or maybe the govt is keeping him quiet. I see everyone else starting threads that he normally would start.

Ah, the shift work days. Working 5pm till 5am, with nothing to do but post on this board. I took a staff job in '05 working straight days. I've been stuck in the 11,000 posts range ever since.

 

I remember those days. Some of us were so excited by the start of the Steve Francis era that we hastily chose monikers that are now widely mocked.

That's great, Captain Obvious. As I said before, the whole Stroshow debacle was before I started posted here. And for the posters who were here when that happened to find out that stroshow is now 3814 were incredulous to say the least. And honestly, stroshow became 3814 and started making solid posts here in a span of TWO or THREE, not 13, years.

 

Speaking of ZRB - boy that takes me back. I remember he was the most negative poster here and he even had a link in his sig about trolls and trolling (which was his homepage). If I recall correctly, ZRB were his actual initials and he was from Australia (I think) but had moved to Seattle (I think Zaine was his first name). He was a fervent Olajuwon lover who felt that the Rockets did him dirty. He pretty much disappeared after he got absolutely blasted by A-Train following a Rockets loss. A-Train let him have it with both barrels - a rant that has rarely been seen on this board.

So agree with this. Wouldn't surprise me to find out a lot of old posters just aren't that into the Rockets anymore. I really hate to admit this, but the game against the Heat a few weeks ago is the first time I've watched a Rockets game, from start to finish, in about 20 months. We've become a boring team playing in a boring league.

I just can't identify with the Rockets much anymore. Not like the good old days. Even when we weren't winning back in the 80's and 90's, at least we had an identity. Now, it's just so.....blah.

I much prefer b****ing about the Texans nowadays.

Man I wish I found out about this site when we still had Olajuwon. I didn't start reading CFnet until the MerGady era, which was disappointing save for 1 season.

If I'm not mistaken, this BBS didn't have open registration until 2005-2006ish? amirite? How did people register before open registrations? college email? work email?
