Bumping this thread back as my top 10 of favorite artists has DRASTICALLY changed from the opening post! 1 - Radiohead 2 - Sigur Ros/Jonsi 3 - Animal Collective/Panda Bear/Avey Tare 4 - Wilco 5 - Pink Floyd 6 - Deerhunter/Atlas Sound/Lotus Plaza 7 - Pere Ubu 8 - Manic Street Preachers 9 - Can 10 - The Allman Brothers Band Solo artists are pretty much unchanged. Some other bands that are making progress towards my top 10 - Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, The Residents, and The Church.
I'm going to say The Soft Bulletin but I would get DCKid's input on this as well. Other favorites by them include Yoshimi, Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, and Clouds Taste Metallic.
OK, all in fun, no offense meant, but isn't this thread supposed to be about your top 10 favorites of all time? Or was it supposed to be about top 10 favorites at any given moment? I would think the latter would be fairly easy- especially for yourself because you listen to a broad range of music. I think the much more difficult- and more thought-provoking- question is this: who are your top 10 favorite musical artists of all time, Manny? No distinction among solo or bands, no distinction among genres of music, just the top 10 - if they had a gun to your head, if your life depended on it, etc. Now, I completely understand that tastes change. But I do think that some can have a fairly consistent top 10 list. For example, I may enjoy listen to different types of music at different times, but I don't know if I can say that my own musical tastes change, or that my all-time favorite list changes radically. Maybe that's the case with some- interesting. So, is it possible for you to list an all-time top 10 musical artist list- knowing that there's very little separation between #10 and, say, #150, but that there are ultimate 10 musical artists who you have the most albums/CDs from, they're the top 10 in your Windows Media Player, you would take these 10 groups' catalogues to a desert island if you were only allowed to bring works from 10 groups, etc. Is that feasible? My list from page 1 has been that way for the past 10-15 years. The only change was that Radiohead went into my top 10 and Bob Dylan dropped out. And Cheap Trick moved up a few and The Kinks dropped a few. Other than that, the same. But, hey, totally understandable if that's not possible for some. Just curious.
To be honest dando, this stuff goes in cycles for me. Until recently when I listened to "Animals", I had probably gone over 2 years without listening to Pink Floyd. I can't even tell you the last time I have listened to a Bob Dylan album. So, maybe to be fair, I should have clarified my last post by saying it was my 10 favorites that I have been listening to. Yet, you will notice all of those bands were listed as honorable mentions if they weren't in the top 10. Radiohead has pretty much has always been in my top 10 bands list and Sigur Ros is usually there, too. I have really gotten into Animal Collective (yea, I know I have drunk the Pitchfork kool-aid) in the last month and I have seen Wilco live twice in my life (and they kicked ass both times). So, my top 5 is defendable, in my eyes. After that, maybe not as much as I still need to go through the rest of the Manics discography and Can did release some stinker albums near the end. But you want my top 10 artists of all-time without distinguishing between bands and solo? Let's see: 1 - Radiohead 2 - Captain Beefheart 3 - Van Morrison 4 - Sigur Ros/Jonsi 5 - Bruce Springsteen 6 - Animal Collective/Panda Bear/Avey Tare 7 - Wilco 8 - Bob Dylan 9 - Pink Floyd 10 - Neil Young My problem (outside of liking too MUCH music) is that I am constantly listening to artists that aren't really in my top 10 because I am wanting to hear new and different stuff. It helps keep the older stuff more fresh, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, here's my list I guess.. 1. The Police (duh!) 2. Rush 3. Ten Hands 4. Ben Folds Five 5. RHCP (pre-BSSM years only....yes, I'm a RHCP snob...) 6. Weezer (1st 4 albums) 7. ZZ Top 8.
