And there is no vid of his personal 9-0 run in the clutch of Scola That 8-9 minutes stretch was an exaple of one of the worst one on one defensive performances in Rockets modern history It's probably even worse, than what Boozer did with Rockets in 07 playoffs
First basket - awful positioning by Scola, no raised hand, terrible footwork Second basket - Scola gave him to much space, than he destroyed Luis with pumpfake and get an easy basket Third basket - terrible rotation on the pick'n'roll. He just stucked in one position and didn't even realize what he should do Fourth basket - he left extremely hot guy alone on his sweetspot and wasn't ready to contest his shot, cause it was freeeeee as wind in a valley Fifth basket - look on basket #3. Same mistake on the rotation in just two minutes and we lost this game I am a big fan of Luis but this was terrible D by him
he was much better with Yao, Shane and Ron-Ron cause he knew his place and he knew what he had to do on D. Right now, he's like a lost kid, whose parents left him in the huge mall
I think he was very tired and that the reason why he sucked on defense - It's happened because RA don't subtituted him on patterson on second half
Scola also had five fouls, perhaps that's why he was hesitant to defend more aggressively. Overall, it was not one of Scola's better games, he got off on the wrong foot by producing two turnovers right in the beginning of the game, too.
Scola played the entire second half and OT till he fouled out. Brad played with 8 minutes remaining in the 3rd Q till the end of the game one dude is 31.. the other is 35. The coaching guy on the sideline should have done something about that. We had a young rookie PF ready to play. should have played him intermittently during that strech. and yes. Scola sucks on D. but this was also partially due to coaching errors.
I dont even bother watching the game these days until something happens with our roster/coach.. pathetic on both counts
And Patterson (8 minutes) was on the bench while our defensive weapons (Miller and Scola) were on the floor. Adelman is a genius.
In the last 6 minutes of regulation, Millsap went 3-5 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line (4 freethrows were a result of Scola shooting fouls, the 5th was the and 1 play where Scola was beaten and Battier made the foul). In overtime, Millsap went 6-6. That comes to 9-11 for 23 points in the final 11 minutes of the game. In the first 42 minutes of the game, Millsap registered a whopping 2-9 from the field for 4 points with no free throw attempts. I don't think I've ever seen someone go supernova like that after getting shut down the first 85% of a game. It was like Scola was surprised Millsap was going to take another mid range J after he just made his last 4. The point about Scola not getting rest might be a good one, but he got absolutely torched. Something has to be done when a guy is going off like that, whether it's Scola bearing down, Adelman making a substitution, or adjusting the defense. That was terrible.
Ive been saying for the longest time that Scola is one of the worst defensive players in the NBA that for some reason nobody seems to notice. Everyone just sees his post moves and stats at the end of the night. Even his defense in the summer world classic for Argentina his defense was pathetic. Sure he puts up ridiculous points and gets open rebounds, but you cant find a post player out there that plays worse defense in the NBA. Post up, help defense, shot blocking.... you name it, he doesnt do it. If this team wants to get back to a defensive minded basketball team then Scola needs to be traded or benched when he lets a player go off like he did last night. The hole in the middle isnt just from Yao Ming not being there, its Scola as well.
It's hard to give your all on offense and defense at the same time. Even when you are capable of both. The beauty of Rick's system though is that the offensive burden is shared. The Rocket's game plan should focus on D every game with matchups in every quarter being the focus.
