In addition, if you are a drummer or horn player there may be opportunities for you. Call 713-963-7326 for more information.

I like the Rim Rattlers. It's close enough.

This sounds cool...wasn't this idea brought forth in a thread of suggestions posted for Tim last season??

"Rockets Red Glare" is no doubt the best ;)

So the Rockets are getting a band together?

Personally, I like some person playing the Organs like in MSG.

I hope this is better than the band they have at the Mavs games in Dallas. They are horrible and only play the simplest songs in the world.

I am not 100% certain on this, but I believe it will be a rotating mix of high-school bands. The reason I say this is because (as many of you know, I work at Strake Jesuit) I was talking to our music director, and he said the Rockets called and asked him if they would be willing to play at the 41 home games this season. He said they could do like 10 or 15, but not make a 41 game commitment, and he suggested that the schools alternate, each one taking like 10 games or something.

I can't put this down as being 100% fact, but it's what I was told. Apparently our band (or some of it) will be at almost 1/3 of the home games this season.

This is by far the dumbest idea I have heard them do..
    This is not highschool football.
Its called to cheap to hire real talent to get fans in the door.

FWIW, I don't think it's an overwhelmingly fabulous idea either . . . but who knows, maybe it will work out . . . I just never really associate bands like that with Basketball . . .

The Rockets have had various bands over the years. If you recall, B-Ball Freak has done numerous gigs during Rockets games with his band Global Village - they're great. They also used to have Ezra Charles and the Works - AWFUL!

I've heard about this and this is a much more drum and bugle type with fan involvement, etc. Personally, as a musician, I don't see it. I always liked the way colleges do it with pep bands of like 12 to 15 people including a drum kit, bass maybe guitar and organ and then a big horn section. Those are cool.

Ezra Charles and the works is the one that I remember! They played at the game during our championship years. Maybe Ezra was the key and not Hakeem?

Yeah, the Rockets actually called me to see what my opinion on the idea was. I was a little disappointed because I thought they were wanting my band to sign on for more games. From what I was told, they wanted to make this thing an integral part of the game, replacing some/most of the bumper music they currently use (waaayyyy overdue). If done correctly, this could be pretty cool. I'm not sure, though, how multiple groups/schools could pull this off with any continuity.

I'm with Jeff in the sense that they need a full band (bass, guitar, keys, vocals) with additional percussion and horns. This would make any group much, much more versatile. If they were serious about it, they would hire professional musicians in town to cover all games to achieve the best presentation. This, however, would cost more than they are probably willing to spend. They would probably have to pay union scale and that includes rehearsals. It would be cool, though.

I'm a Canto Pop trombone player based in Hong Kong, maybe the Rocks could fly in a horn section for Yao's arrival!
