Slow news day? Seriously, if he had come out at the start of his career, he'd have had a harder time building credibility writing about sports. Which is why his coming out is probably more newsworthy than many people's. And, as mentioned in the article, he felt an obligation to lend moral support to people struggling with homophobic bullying. He can't achieve that without a declaration. I think it does change things in a small way for young homosexuals struggling with identity issues, and budding young homophobes as well who should probably re-examine how they think about and treat other people.
he's a columnist. They often relate personal experiences. And being gay and involved with sports is a current issue. This isn't the first article to broach the subject, though it's one of the first with a personal admission. It's relevant. It's not like he was a beat writer and disclosed this stuff in a game recap.
Eh, does anybody not named John McCain or not in the GOP leadership care who's gay and who's straight anymore?
Maybe he had to get it off of his chest and honor his mother's wishes. Nobody cares that you don't care.
If it puts your mind at ease I bet he voted for Bagwell. Baggy is from New England, played in the Red Sox minor league system and is has a following in that area.
